How to Delete All contents--Identity Safe?

I have not used IDS for several years in favor of Last Pass. I would like to again try the IDS iOS app. Therefore, I need to delete all the credentials currently within the desktop/website IDS so that I may export a cvs file from LP and import that file into IDS?

Re: How to Delete All contents--Identity Safe?

Hi markg2,

although not intended for your exact situation, the following info taken from this Knowledge Base Article should work just fine for your purpose - recreate an Identity Safe Vault on your desktop.

One thing that has been reported in the paste regards the instructions:

"If you forget your Identity Safe password, you cannot recover it. If you enter your password incorrectly three times, Identity Safe prompts you to delete your vault. If you delete the vault, you lose all the Identity Safe data that you stored, such as your logon information, address, cards, and notes."

Three different incorrect passwords, as opposed to the same incorrect password three times.

Seems like there was something format-wise that needed to be changed when going from LastPass to ID Safe - I'll see if I can find it or perhaps someone has been there - done that and can assist.

Please let us know if this meets your needs.

Stuck on step 1. How do I recreate the ISV on the desktop?

What Norton Product (and version from ABOUT) are you using?

Norton Security

Version: 22.6.0.142

I had an idea. Why couldn't I just export a .csv file from the vault, load it in Excel, clear contents, save and import the file back to the vault?

Hi markg2,

If you want,  go ahead and try it - let us know if that works.

<EDIT> When Importing be sure to use the replace rather than the Merge option if you try your method.

We have provided a solution we know will clear your Norton ID Safe Vault, if you do not want to use it, you re free to try other methods.

In regards to Step one of the KB I linked to, it is based on the fact that you are logged out of your Norton Vault, double left clicking on the Identity Square and are then trying to log into your vault.

Re: How to Delete All contents--Identity Safe?

My bright idea turns out not so bright.

Import wouldn't except the cleared .csv file. I then tried clearing the contents of the .dat file and import wouldn't take it either. In both instances I opted for clear existing vs. merge. I then tried to bulk select all the logins in the vault to delete all at once but Shift and Ctrl are inoperative.

I'm back to your initial suggestion. I've logged out of the vault and will load your link and give it a shot (and likely be back w/more ?'s before I get through this thing ^^)

Re: How to Delete All contents--Identity Safe?

That sure was easy (your additional clues sure helped). I should have listened to you in the first place but I sort of liked the challenge of delivering the '0' bomb ;-).

All cleared and a new vault created.

Now for the 2nd half which isn't looking too bright. Importing an exported LP csv or dat file. From my recent experience I think that Norton has a security feature that stops a tampered dat or csv file from gaining entry. Unless the vault had a way of communicating with either LP or Firefox's native credential store I don't see how I can fill up the vault other than to have the vault run along with LP and after LP enters credentials allow Norton to then add same assuming Norton will prompt to do so.

Got a better idea?

Re: How to Delete All contents--Identity Safe?

Here re two past threads in regards to this topic that I have managed to locate - not sure if either will provide any assistance or not:  One pertains to Last Pass the first is another password manager - but a suggestion none the less.

Re: How to Delete All contents--Identity Safe?

The threads bear out what I've gone through and figured out. The only solution from the thread agrees with the current plan--let Norton sit there and learn from LP.

Thanks a ton yank--absent you, not sure I would have worked through all this myself.

markg2  glad I could help (a little bit) - but don't give up the ship - someone may come along and provide more info - at least you got the Vault emptied.
