How do I add a product key to renew subscription?

I purchased Norton Security from a third party retailer, the same product from the same retailer I have used the past 2 years. I am trying to enter the product key under Help>Enter Product Key. After entering the Product Key, I receive a message that states "To start your subscription, enter your billing information and product key at Norton.com/enroll. (2027)". The link, "Norton.com/enroll" requires me to enter my credit card billing information. I am not going to enter my billing information, which is why I pre-purchased a one year subscription. I did not have this issue the last time I renewed my subscription. How do I resolve this?

Might be best to contact Customer Support and have them sort it for you.

You could also try entering the key here  -  http://norton.com/setup

Thanks for the reply. I tried and it gave me the same message: something along the line of "go to 'Norton.com/enroll' to enter billing information before entering product key."

FWIW ~
By my experience.  Regardless of where or how user purchases Norton subscription.
Norton requires Norton account and payment method.

Your Norton subscription purchase includes Automatic Renewal Service. At the end of Your Service Period, the Service will be renewed and Your payment method will be charged the then-current renewal price (plus applicable taxes) automatically, without any additional action by You. At any time after Your purchase, You may change Your subscription settings, including cancelling Your automatic renewal, at manage.norton.com. Annual Automatic Renewal Service charges are eligible for a refund within sixty (60) days of the renewal purchase date. Please see the Norton Return Policy for more information on obtaining refunds for Norton products.

  • By subscribing, you are purchasing a recurring subscription which will automatically renew after the first term.
  • The price quoted today is valid for the first term of your subscription. After that, your subscription will be billed at the applicable monthly or annual renewal price here. The price is subject to change, but we will always send you a notification email in advance.
  • You can cancel your subscription at my.norton.com or by contacting Member Services & Support. For more details, please visit the Return Policy.
  • Your subscription includes protection updates and features that may be added, modified or removed subject to the acceptance of the Customer Agreement.
  • The number of supported devices allowed under your plan are for personal or household use only. Not for commercial use. If you have issues adding a device, please contact Member Services & Support.
  • To be eligible for the Virus Protection Promise, you must have a qualifying subscription and unless you have Norton Small Business, you must also have purchased, renewed or upgraded that subscription directly from Symantec, or activate automatic renewal with Symantec.

You are enrolled in the Automatic Renewal service at the following times:
When you purchase a Norton subscription from the Norton Online store.
When you first set up Norton after purchasing from a retail store or a Symantec affiliated online third-party website.

Re: How do I add a product key to renew subscription?

If that's the case, I will never purchase another Norton subscription.  If I choose to purchase from a third-party Symantec do not need to know my card details.  That is none of their business, simple!

Payment method = cash, sorry to tell you Symantec.  One less customer.  I'm not sure they can afford to lose too many more.  Cough, Core, cough.

Yeah, I hear ya'.

  • Your Norton subscription purchase includes Automatic Renewal Service.
  • By subscribing, you are purchasing a recurring subscription which will automatically renew after the first term.

Norton subscription requires user account and user payment method for recurring subscription service.
Virus Protection Promise requires user activate automatic renewal.

  • Users may enroll or cancel Automatic Renewal & remove payment method at anytime.

Do you have a sign in tab next to the sign up tab?
Click on sign in.

This is the site I reach when clicking on the link: https://login.norton.com
I’m sure too you can enter a new license directly via the program but this may have changed.

Another option to try. Log into your Norton Account and click on View Devices on the Devices pillar. Then click on the device you wish to update the product on. Then click on the link to Enter a different key. Let us know if this works. When I clicked on it, it just asked for the product key.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: How do I add a product key to renew subscription?

Thank you everybody for trying to help. All of your suggestions led me to the same place, "go to Norton.com/enroll", and none would let me just enter my product key. I called customer support, gave the agent my product key, and he renewed my subscription. According to the agent, the policies have not changed and I should not have to enroll if I purchased a product key from a third party.

This could be a bug/oversight in the setup and renewal process, but it's really inconvenient and I can't recommend Norton to friends and family at this point. Hopefully this will get addressed before my subscription ends in a year.

meaning user does not have to enroll in "Automatic Renewal" if purchased from third party?

Thanks for info

Re: How do I add a product key to renew subscription?

That is correct. If purchased from a third party (Amazon, Best Buy, etc.), you should be able to renew your subscription without having to enroll in Automatic Renewal.

Re: How do I add a product key to renew subscription?

User would need to renew their third party key with the aid of Norton Support....at this time... to avoid enrolling (even for a minute) in Automatic Renewal.

Thanks again.
