How Do I Get Norton Community Forum To Have a Trusted Security Certificate?

Hello

Windows 7 Pro 64 bit I E 11. On Wed. I noticed that my IE 11 Task Bar was not Green in Norton.com. The DiGiCert Certificate is asking if this site should be trusted? It identifies this site as community.norton.com. The connection to the server is encrypted. Then it asks if it can be trusted. I have found out that Norton just renewed the certificate this week. Norton Safe Web says it is secured. My Norton Account has the Trusted certificate, but it isn't DiGi.  Norton is all Green with my Android cellphone. How do I get it back in this computer? It appears to be something with DiGi  certificate.

Thanks.

Floplot have a look at this: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/framework/wcf/feature-details/how-to-view-certificates-with-the-mmc-snap-in On my W10 machine I don't get the green lock anymore either however the community certificate is signed and valid.

Hello Soul

Do you get the Green Address Bar for community.norton.com  with I E 11? I can't believe I am the only one who has lost the Green Address Bar?

Have a Good Night and

Thanks.

Flo, no I do not get a green URL bar with a lock. I believe this may answer why. Some sites DO and some sites do not have the level of encryption needed to have this appear. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie11-iewindows_10/website-security-in-internet-explorer-11/06dc7718-db9e-461a-a27f-745b0e83480d

Re: How Do I Get Norton Community Forum To Have a Trusted Security Certificate?

Hello Soul

So you are saying that the level of encryption changed for this Forum? I used to have the Green URL line and the padlock. Now I don't even have the padlock for this Forum. I don't know if my son is using IE or not with his Win 10, but the Forum does have the Green URL and the padlock. Different parts of Norton.com do have the green URL and padlock, but they also have VeriSign as the certificate holder. This Forum uses DigiCert which was just renewed in April. For example the Norton Support pages have the green URL. I just checked my Bank's website and they don't have the green bar either, but I don't do online banking there.

I think what is bothering me is that some people do have the Green bar whereas others don't have it for this same Forum.

Have a Good Night and

Thanks.

Re: How Do I Get Norton Community Forum To Have a Trusted Security Certificate?

Hello Soul

I just found this.

https://us.norton.com/internetsecurity-how-to-ssl-certificates-what-consumers-need-to-know.html

Perhaps the issue is between the Forum renewing a previous certificate vs. getting a new CV certificate every year. Requirements might change from year to year? Just noticed that the URL bar does not mention Symantec like the other pars of Norton which do have the green URL bar. That could be why it sometimes says that the certificate name doesn't match the website URL and that's why there is a ?.

Have a Good Night and

Thanks.

Re: How Do I Get Norton Community Forum To Have a Trusted Security Certificate?

Flo, the Poodle Attack found in 2014 affects all implementations of SSL3 protocol. I have it disabled in my browsers. I DO use TLS 1.0 / 1.1 / 1.2 and my browser show as good. https://security.stackexchange.com/questions/70719/ssl3-poodle-vulnerability

Run this test on your browser and get your results. As long as I have a lock appear on the website I am visiting and the certificate doesn't show any issues I consider things good to go. Others MAY still have these protocols enabled and thus MAY be vulnerable. https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/viewMyClient.html

Re: How Do I Get Norton Community Forum To Have a Trusted Security Certificate?

Hello Soul

No padlock showing for the Forum. I don't use SSL and I do use those TSL's you have listed. I do get some green address bars and padlocks for some sites. Parts of Norton.com site do have the green address bar and padlock. Support has the Green Address Bar. I do have sites without the padlock. Could that be because I am on Win 7 Pro and not on Win 10?

Have a Good Night and

Thanks.

Re: How Do I Get Norton Community Forum To Have a Trusted Security Certificate?

Hello Flo. Its IE 11 since SSL 3.0 is the only SSL setting available in its settings. I have it disabled. There are no settings to enable older versions in Control Panel under "programs and features">Turn windows features on or off". Microsoft has disabled these protocols to mitigate vulnerabilities within them.

Cheers
