How do I turn on Remote Management? The bar won't move to turn it on.

Hi,

I've read I need to turn on Remote Management in the forums to make my computer appear in the My Devices list.  However, I can't make it move.  Is that true for Norton Security Premium?  I'm trying to fix this and make it work.  I deleted some old computers that all were under "trial" status and don't think this computer ever even showed up at all.  My mobile phone is under there no problem once I reinstalled it.  I'm running Windows 10 on a Dell Inspiron 15 64 bit laptop.  I've downloaded the Norton program probably four times, reinstalled it, and it says it is active, so I'm not sure why it isn't appearing.

Occasionally I was getting "firewall" and "virus protection" warnings that led me on this merry chase this evening.

Help!

Thanks so much!

Cam

Is the remote management setting currently ON or OFF?

Have you restarted your computer

Hi!

The setting is off, I just restarted and it still won't go on.  My computer isn't listed yet, either.

Any other ideas are welcome!  Thanks!

Is the problem machine showing the correct Subscription Status?  What happens if you open Norton > Help > Subscription Status?

A little bit of knowledge is... well a little bit of knowledge.

Hi!  Thanks!  The device manager now reads my computer as a device in "trial" status.  Subscription status, as requested above, reads 506 days remaining on my subscription, as does the main Norton screen so I'm still confused.  When I enter the key per the email and the subscription (I copied and pasted from the account settings page) it tells me it is not valid.  Remote Management is now on somehow.  I've restarted since I've discovered all of this.

I, as I have since I started all of this stuff, keep getting notifications from my computer with warnings that network firewall and virus status need to be checked but Norton tells me they are on.  This worries me greatly.

Any thoughts?

As long as your Norton icon in the system tray shows a green check mark, you have nothing to worry about for your Norton product protecting you.

Sometimes, Windows 10 incorrectly reports the firewall and anti virus are not installed. If you click on the warning, it will take you to the Action Center which will show Norton is protecting you anyway. This seems to be a quirk in Windows. Not a Norton issue.

So that's okay, then.  But why does the Norton device manager still report me as having my subscription status in "trial," and does it matter?

Thanks!

Hi CamMcl,

If you go into More Norton > Manage my Protection > log into your Norton Account > Select My Services from the My Norton drop down > re-log into your Norton Account and you will see something similar to what is shown below:

The image shows "All Services" - perhaps you are seeing the Trial because you have the Trial option selected.  Using "Active" option should show you current install.  In the image above with "All Services" selected the one circled in yell ow with the white background is the "active product" .  Please note that Norton Mobile Security (NMS) is not RED X'd because my NSBU product provides NMS free as part of the NSBU product.

See if changing the above options in Services helps clear this up in your mind.

If you are referring to the Devices page on the Norton Management web site, that page is often incorrect. This has been reported to Norton many, many times, and they still have trouble with it.

If you go the page Yank posted about, that is the page that is correct. So you do not really have to worry about the devices page.

Hello

Please remember to use a Windows Administrator account to make any changes in your Norton Settings and hit ok/apply. A restart after any changes made wouldn't hurt either.

Thanks.
