How to get Norton Toolbar and safe web icons in Firefox 44

I don't know what "label" is appropriate for my problem. Please excuse if mis-posted, as I am senior citizen, non-techie.

I got new pc in December and have seen a few Firefox versions released.  I have the latest version.  I've learned that Norton had and still has some problems with FF.  I'm confused by what I've seen about patches and such being released via Live Update.  My Norton has Automatic Live Update.  Yet, I never see the Norton Toolbar displayed, nor see it listed in FF Extensions.  I disabled Identity Safe, as I don't want that.  All I really want to see are the little green/red icons next to my search results...that tell whether a result is safe to click on.

If someone uses Firefox 44, please tell me if you see the icons.   And please tell me how to get the Norton Toolbar.

thank you

kashka

Re: How to get Norton Toolbar and safe web icons in Firefox 44

Hello kashka,

Firefox 44 will display the Norton Safe Web icons, but the Identity Safe component does not work.

Just to clarify, in Firefox the extension is not called Norton Toolbar, it is designated as Norton Identity Safe. Any chance that is present and can be enabled?

If that is not the case, please consider the following. It may seem complex, but just take it one step at a time.

Step 1:

  • Open Internet Explorer and in the Norton Toolbar click the three dots to change settings.
  • In the pop up window, select Open Identity Safe Settings (even if you have ID Safe disabled)

  • In the next dialogue box, you can check the status of the Norton Toolbar Options and Browser Extensions.

  • Check that Enable Norton Safe Web is checked.
  • If Firefox displays an orange icon and notes Extension disabled, click the blue text, ‘Open extension settings’.
  • Restart Firefox and see if the extension is present and enabled. If not, go to step 2.

Step 2:

  • Uninstall Firefox.
  • Restart Computer
  • Install Firefox – If the toolbar is not present, go to step 3.

Step 3:

This step is a bit more drastic than the above as it involves deleting your Firefox profile.  I recently had to do this to resolve a problem similar to yours on my wife’s computer.

Let us know how you do.

Phil to the rescue!  I didn't know they called it Identity Safe in Firefox. I enabled it and the Norton Toolbar displayed.  Phew, relief!

(Your Step 1 starts out mentioning Internet Explorer, then later Firefox.  But I got the gist of it.)  I didn't take Safe Web, as I don't want to see that much detail.  Just the little green/red icons are enough for me.

Thank you so very much for your prompt answer, Phil, you solved my problem.

Re: How to get Norton Toolbar and safe web icons in Firefox 44

I'm glad you were able to get that resolved, kashka.

Just to clarify, I mentioned Internet Explorer in Step 1 because if the toolbar is not available in Firefox, you won't be able to get to the Settings to check the status.  Therefore another browser must be used to check settings.
