How to restore Norton Safe Search?

Recently, Norton Safe Search simply vanished from my list of search tools (in Firefox 24.0). I'd like to restore NSS as my perferred search tool but I'm unsure of the best way to accomplish this.

If I do an over-the-top reinstall of NIS, might this restore Norton Safe Search without disturbing any other current settings (i.e.,my numerous custom firewall rules, ID safe, etc.)?

Win Vista  Ult x86/NIS 2013 v.20.4.0.40

Thanks --

Re: How to restore Norton Safe Search?

Hello,

If you do an over the top reinstall or uninstall Norton via Add or Remove programs but choose the option to maintain all user data then your custom settings will be preserved and it's the best way to bring back the Norton Safe Search to your browser.

Let us know how it went.

Thank you.

Hi BCescot,

Before you get carried awy with removals and installations, please see the image  below: Click on the Norton, and then check mark Enable Safe Search.  I beleive this still works in version 20.4.0.40.

Re: How to restore Norton Safe Search?

Hi Yank,

I posted my previous comment assuming that the Safe Search was already ticked in NTB but accidentally removed/deleted from the browser.

If that's the case, I'm not sure if it can be restored.

What you suggested should be tried by the user in the first place, and if no result, then I believe that a reinstallation should be required.

Thanks, all, for the suggestions, appreciate the feedback.

Looks like a "repair install" is in order, as the appropriate features are enabled, but are not kicking in.

Re: How to restore Norton Safe Search?

Interesting - Used Windows "Programs & Features" to uninstall NIS, specified "save previous settings" so I wouldn't lose current NIS state (like my firewall rules). Reinstalled NIS '13 v 20.4.0.40 from the file that Tony Weiss was kind enough to send to me a while back.

On reboot, an Identity Safe icon appeared in the taskbar (not there before). My first thought was, "I bet I just got moved to the cloud"... I then checked my user specified firewall rules & found that nearly all were gone!.

Gotta love disk imaging programs - I had set a Windows restore point & created an incremental disk image of the drive before making the above changes. Can't be too careful. So I'm back to where I was yesterday - with Safe Web & Safe Search showing as active in Firefox 24, albeit without Safe Search showing in my list of installed search engines.

So I'm no better off than I was yesterday, but no worse off, either (other than being temporarily stumped...

If / when I find the fix, I'll be sure to share. Thanks guys, for your previous suggestions. I haven't given up yet.

Cheers -

Please mark as CLOSED.

After trying to resolve this with no result, I restored my boot drive from a slightly earlier image than the one I had tried previously. Norton Safe Search has been restored as my default search engine. My NIS is now functioning perfectly.

Thanks to all for the suggestions & support.
