I can't change customize automatic scan tasks.

I can't change customize automatic scan tasks.
I want to customize or turn off Norton Optimization. I think it may be removing cookies in Chrome that I need to automatically sign in.

If I go to  settings--> task scheduling,  I can't change any of the settings.
I do not want Norton to do disk optimization.
I have an SSD and it does not need optimization.
I do not want Norton to remove browser temporary files.

Re: I can't change customize automatic scan tasks.

First, you need to be logged into a Windows Admin account to change most settings in Norton.

Once using an admin account, go to Settings - Task Scheduling and uncheck the items you do not want Norton to run.

FWIW Neither Norton or Windows will not defrag an SSD on a regular basis. Norton uses Window's optimization routines.

Here is some information on the Windows defrag and SSDs.

Re: I can't change customize automatic scan tasks.

PeterWeb,

I am logged in to Windows 10 as an Administrator.

But, I do not see the check boxes in Norton Security Tasks Scheduling.

Is there something I have to do to Norton Security to ensure it is running in Adminstrator mode?

What specific Norton product and version are you using? There is no Administrative mode for Norton.

Can you post a screenshot of what you see when from the main Norton screen, you click on Settings - Tasks Scheduling?

Re: I can't change customize automatic scan tasks.

PeterWeb,
Thanks for the help with this problem.

I am using Norton Security version 22.9.4.8. I am signed in to Symantec.
I am running Windows 10 Pro version 1703 x64 16 GB Ram

This is what I see in Norton Tasks Scheduling.
There are no check boxes next to the Performance lines.
If I go to Settings--> Administrative Settings, I can make changes.

Looks like all your icons and symbols have vanished, I've seen this once before (didn't confirm solution). You either need update your video drivers (windows 10 may decide afterwards to (re)install some other driver), or you need a clean install of Norton.

Those check boxes are there, you just can't see them.

Try running LiveUpdate a few times, restarting between runs. There is a new version of Norton being released in a phased manner. The update may fix your issues.

The new version is 22.10.0.83

PeterWeb.

Thanks very much

Running Live Update manually fixed the problem.

This is strange and interesting. Live Update was running automatically, but never downloaded the patch that was downloaded when I ran it manually.

Re: I can't change customize automatic scan tasks.

It is possible it did get a part of the patch. Patches are released with separate components that do not necessarily get downloaded together. When a new version is released, not everyone gets it right away. It can take up to a week for everyone to get all the parts. This is done in case the first downloaders encounter a fatal flaw. Then Norton can pull the patch so it does not affect everyone.

Your running LiveUpdate manually, may have been the key to getting the second part of the update.

The Product Announcements for new versions always state that although no system restart is necessary to get the update installed, it is best to run LiveUpdate a few times, restarting between runs, to ensure the update has been fully completed.

Re: I can't change customize automatic scan tasks.

Interesting.

I ran Live Update 3 times without restarting since it did not insist on restarting. On the 3rd time it said there was nothing to do.

Rebooting is probably a good idea since Norton loads code during boot that may not get refreshed during Live Update.

I just rebooted, then ran Live Update and was informed that no changes were needed.

Thanks for advice.
I did not know that automatic Live Update installed partial updates. Nor did I realize that while the partial updates continue, that features get disabled.

For what it is worth, Win 10 update function in a similar fashion. Sometime after an update and before rebooting, some 3rd party software products seem to be disabled.
