Re: I forget my password manager vault

Hi Young, do you also use an android (or maybe IOS) version of Norton Password Manager with your fingerpint associated to your app ?

Re: I forget my password manager vault

If you forget your vault password there is nothing you can do. For security reasons all you can do is change the password. But to do that you need the old password. At this point you can only reset your vault, but that will wipe out your existing vault and you will have to start over again. You may have a backup of your vault if you have been using the vault on your PC. Look in your Documents folder for a folder named Norton Password Manager Backups. Let us know if you have this folder and we will help you restore your vault contents.

Re: I forget my password manager vault

Hi Peter,

This was indeed the case before the announcement of the Norton Password Manager 6.3 for Android update on May 22nd.

If I understood well the announcement, this new version brings an interesting feature, which I have unfortunately not yet been able to test, but which allows to deal with the situation of the kind described by Yong.

3What are the changes in this build?

  • Reset Password - Support to reset NPW vault password by making use of Fingerprint from Android device, if users have forgotten it.

Not sure, but there is probably something to dig on this side .

Good night.

Re: I forget my password manager vault

Hi Guillaume

I stand corrected. Apple and Android devices with a fingerprint reader can take advantage of this feature. I have checked on my iPhone and do see a method to reset a password using Biometric authentication in iOS. After logging into the vault using the fingerprint, tapping on Settings, then Vault, brings up a page where the password can be reset.

So as long as the user has a newer Android or Apple phone, this is a possibility.

So far, that is the only way a Vault password can be changed if forgotten.

Having a backup folder is okay but should be protected in case of Ransomware encryption or device being stolen etc.
