ID Safe no longer works with any browser

Congratulations to the programming idiots responsible for ID Safe. It now doesn't work with FF, IE11 or Chrome without manually clicking the "Vault is closed" button in the toolbar. Even then, it takes some time for it to actually open the vault. I've also read that there is supposedly an update for NIS yet apparently that wasn't exactly true either since it isn't available despite what is clearly stated here: http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Product-Update-21-1-1-of-Norton-Internet-Security-amp-Norton/td-p/1096119. I have NIS 21.1.0.18 and even if I go to the update center it still claims I have the latest version and no update is available. So not only does ID Safe not work but now Norton has apparenty taken to telling blatant lies about their products. If they lie about the update being available, then one can't help but wonder what else they are lieing about. I have been an advocate of Symantec/Norton for years but can no longer recommend their products in good faith to my business clients as I feel the company can no longer be trusted. If I didn't still have 200+ days left on my subscription I would change my security software today.

Main PC: Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit) - AMD FX-4130 3.8 GHz - 16 GB DDR3 1600 - NIS 2013 (21.1.0.18) - NU 16 - IE11, Firefox, Safari, Chrome 31

Re: ID Safe no longer works with any browser

- Please go back to the link you provided in your last post, read it and click on the link in the following sentnce:

" Please see our announcement for more information."

It clearly states what you need to do in order to get the update from the update Center:

2. How can I get this update?

This update is ONLY available via the Norton Update Center. It will not be received via LiveUpdate.  This is not just a patch, it is the full version of the product. It will uninstall your current version, and install version 21.1.1 on your system.

If you are running NIS/NAV/N360 21.1.0, please select the "Choose My Product Manually" option:

Then choose your product, selecting version 20:

This will begin the download of version 21.1.1.

- Also ever since the ID Safe has gone to the Online Vault, the only way to Open ID Safe with an Online Vault was via the Vault is Closed button.  The capability to open it when you log onto Windows has disappeared if you have an Online Vault.  For those who retained the Local Vault, that option "Automatically open my Vault when Windows starts" is still available.

-  Do you have any other situations that need explaining?  We'd be glad to answer!

Re: ID Safe no longer works with any browser

That look clearly stated to me, it has pictures and everything.

Normally the update center is only used for "major" versions, all "minor" versions are usually handled through live update.

Thats why you have to select version 20 as your current product, if you notice the selections there are no choices for the minor versions.

Thats why if you select that you have version 21 it will not offer you version 21 again.

Re: ID Safe no longer works with any browser

So why are you supposed to lie about the version you actually have??? Explain that to me. The version installed is 21.1.0.18 so why are you supposed to tell the update center you have version 20? That is just another reason to not trust Norton any longer. If you have to lie just to get the update from 21.1.0.18 to 21.1.1 by claiming you have version 20 then why should I trust anything Norton says? I doubt anyone there has a valid explanation for that. There are probably a ton of excuses why you have to do it that way and most people know what they say about excuses and what they are like.

Re: ID Safe no longer works with any browser

yank: FYI you supposed "Guru" the Open Vault option in the toolbar normally opens when you go to a site that requires a login. You DO NOT have to click the Vault is closed button to open it because you are prompted to by the toolbar. That feature has stopped working properly. But of course, being a supposed Guru, I'm supposed to believe you are always right about anything you say regarding Norton products. Guess what. You aren't as you just proved. I also did the manual update (aka the lie about the current version) and ended up with the exact same version I already had - 21.1.0.18 - NOT 21.1.1, so don't talk down to me.

Luckily, experience and 35+ years of IT work have taught me to basically ignore your type and put you in the same class as all those script kiddie wannabe hackers out there that are an embarassment to those of us with true black hat skills.

KoloheWiz - Hope you have a great day and continue to spread your 35 years of experience and eventually get over yourself!

Please do continue to ignore me and others, call us what you like - if it makes you feel important, that's what counts!

Re: ID Safe no longer works with any browser

After manually uninstalling NIS 21.1.0.18 myself, I finally managed to get the updated version of NIS (21.1.1.7) installed. Done with no assistance from your sarcasm or talking down to me so kindly keep your misinformation and sarcasm to yourself in the future. Better yet, don't reply to any of my posts as I will just ignore them anyway. Funny how showing disrespect to someone gets you the same in return. What if I was an elderly person that barely had any idea of how to operate a computer? Your type NEVER think about things like that when you post your replies. Perhaps it's time you start.

Re: ID Safe no longer works with any browser

FWIW ...

http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Toolbar-Norton-Identity/NIS-v21-NTB-fails-to-prompt-for-vault-PW/td-p/1043613

Also FWIW, v21.1.1.7 did not address this particular issue ... I'm still waiting on 21.2.0.38 to push to see if it addresses the problem.  Unfortunately the few postings I'm seeing about 21.2.0.38 have been mostly negative so I'm presuming that its distribution may have been halted for now.

Kind regards,

John

I did explain it in the post made 26 minutes before yours.

Is there any part of my explination you didn't understand?

With your 35 years of IT work you must understand major and minor versions and you must have noticed that only major version choices are availible at the download center.

I certainly did and I have much less experiance than you, I have only been doing this 20 years.

Re: ID Safe no longer works with any browser

This is a close friend of KoloheWiz. He left me to take care of his computer and clean up his online life and this forum was referred to in an email he got earlier today from Norton. I'm sure that your replies - especially Yank's "Hope you have a great day and continue to spread your 35 years of experience and eventually get over yourself! Please do continue to ignore me and others, call us what you like - if it makes you feel important, that's what counts!" - wouldn't have been appreciated had he lived long enough to read them. Unfortunately, that is not the case as the terminal illnesses he had been fighting quietly alone for 20 years finally won yesterday afternoon. So that you can understand that he wasn't "all about himself" as you think, at the time he wrote what he did, he was not only fighting severe pain 24/7 but caring for his 90 year old father who has Alzheimer's and his 87 year old mother who had just returned home after having a stroke. In some ways, I can understand his frustrations because he was one who always believed that tech related things should be done correctly and thoroughly tested BEFORE being released to the public. FYI: He was also a Vietnam Vet medic that, until his final day, was basically treated like dirt and talked down to like most of those that did manage to come home in something other than a box from that conflict. Most of you here appear to be young enough to know nothing about that. So I guess, you should think before you type or speak. Unless you're some kind of clairvoyant, I doubt you know anything about a majority of the people you reply too. Based on what I see written, I would imagine that some if not most of you could care less about the above and are probably thinking "good riddance". If you actually knew the man and how he truly did help many by sharing his technical knowledge freely with anyone that asked then maybe you wouldn't have said what you did the way you did.

Re: ID Safe no longer works with any browser

I don't know if this will ever be seen by the person who responded on behalf of KoloheWiz, but feel a response is appropriate.

I am sorry to hear about your close friend KoloheWiz's passing.  It is admirable what he was doing for his parents, but does not excuse the manner in which he acted on this forum - I certainly hope you had read the entire thread prior to replying, buit if not let me summarize his comment:

-  the programming idiots responsible for ID Safe,

- being a supposed Guru, I'm supposed to believe you are always right about anything you say regarding Norton products. Guess what. You aren't as you just proved.

If someone said al those things to you - I am sure you would have never replied in the manner I did - as he himself said:  "Funny how showing disrespect to someone gets you the same in return".

BTW, I served 23 1/2 years in the Air Force with 2 Southeast Asia Tours retiring in 1988,  and of course was also treated like dirt when I returned from the war.  I am not young enough to have missed anything you are referring to - I lived it and I can also say I am not the only Viet Nam era Vet  who is active on this forum in a Guru capacity.
