Identity safe blindly fills up values/ cannot select non identity fields

I am ready to give up on identity safe and Norton.  I have several sites where I log in with a user ID and password.  Once I get to the site, I may need to put in other information like for example a record locator number, my e-mail address or some other additional detail.  Norton automatically fills in the user ID/password and even submits it in those fields when the question is asked.  This often leads to getting logged out or not be able to submit the details.  If I turn off the auto-fill feature, then I have to manually enter the user ID and password, which defeats the entire purpose.   How do I selectively enable when it should fill, or when I do not need it to fill the details or once filled not to fill again for that session.   This is getting very annoying as I find many sites that need additional details like name of 4th grade math teacher -:) and I have to turn off Norton auto fill feature and then remember to turn it on again.  Even simple data like a record locator number is filled in by Identity safe. All questions that need to be filled are not user ID and password.  I would need to look at other products if this is not going to work.

Not able to see your settings.  Have you tried Auto Fill On with Auto Submit Off

Re: Identity safe blindly fills up values/ cannot select non identity fields

Hi help-login,

I am curious if perhaps this may be one (or more) of those sites that require additional work by Norton in order to correct the way things are filled in?

If you navigate to the site (s) having the [problem (s) and then click on Vault is Open > at the top there is a Current Site > select Options and then Report an issue with this site, an additional page will open and you can tell Norton what the situation is and perhaps they can assist.  I'm not sure of the time frame for receiving an answer, but bear in mind it is the weekend and a holiday period.

Re: Identity safe blindly fills up values/ cannot select non identity fields

Thanks I did that for a particular site I am having problems with.  It is a credit union which has a user ID on one page, the password on the second page and the verification of an e-mail address on the third page.  The program keeps filling the user ID in the e-mail field and I cannot go past it unless I turn off auto fill

Re: Identity safe blindly fills up values/ cannot select non identity fields

how do you do your copy paste, is there an easier way or you have to copy the user ID first and paste, then the password?

I have tried with autofill on and auto submit off and it works on some sites but not on others

thanks

As yank posted this may be a site that requires Norton Permalink  .   That said, your site sounds problematic for Auto Fill.  I recall an explanation of creating a cred for each page in a multi page login.   Never had to try that.  I'm sure your site does the multi page for security.
I don't have priveleges to post Image unfettered.  But,  I have Copy Paste Icons in my address bar.   I go to site > click on Vault is Open > move mouse over to site (drop down - site is usually at top) > click copy > move mouse to field > click for cursor in field > click copy Icon .    Ctrl C (copy) / Ctrl V (paste) also works.   I know it sounds cumbersome.   I got used to it.  I feel Auto Fill / Auto Submit is not safe.  ID Safe also has Fill Assistant which is either drag and drop or copy paste.

Re: Identity safe blindly fills up values/ cannot select non identity fields

Thanks I think I see the copy paste option that you have said and that is a work around, albeit not a preferred work around for the following reason.  I have another problem with identity safe in that some times it goes stale i.e. it does not open when I click on it.  This happens when I have not used for some time and/or have multiple pages open (e.g. a pop page without the menu bar for example when I print a boarding pass).  In those cases I have to close all browsers and then identity safe works.  Is there a solution for that (again diverting from main topic).

I have also had problem with an airline site yesterday where I logged in and it wanted the record locator number after I was in the site and I was navigating through it.  Identity safe kept filling up the password even when I overwrote and tried to submit the record locator.  So I have had this problem on multiple sites and I can give other examples also.

You must have the Online Vault.  Users do report issues more frequently with Online vs Local Vault.
As to a problematic sites all you can do is report site to Norton via migrate to site > Vault is Open > Current Site > Options > Report an issue.   I've stayed Local as I hear all the problems with Online.

I have a local vault.  Avoided online so far.

Rare to hear of bumps in the road with Local.   I wonder if you should export a Vault backup csv & dat to safe place.  And do a product refresh with NRnR Tool.  R U running Firefox ?    Maybe FF profile is corrupt.   Hard to separate problematic vault with problematic websites.  As I'm not experimenting either.   Lets see what others have to say.  Tell use about your setup.  Norton product + version number + OS info etc.   Oh and the Toolbar version number found in add-ons.  Maybe you run Chrome ?  Browser info also please.
I want to back up or export my Identity Safe Vault data

Re: Identity safe blindly fills up values/ cannot select non identity fields

I have been having problems like this, also... I use Identity Safe to log into a site, then, am doing things on the site. Identity Safe seems to like filling in blank fields with your Phone Number, or ID. Might even end up filling in with just the yellow color and the ID check mark. I was testing some stuff on a web-site; NOT wanting to make ANY changes, except on a DRAFT page, and Identity Safe was filling in fields that had NOTHING to do with Phone numbers, with a yellow colored field with a Norton check-mark. I turned the Safe Off. Trying to remember all the other times that I wanted certain text in a field, and it got REPLACED by Identity Safe. Think that one time, was while I was doing the HealthCare.gov, trying to enroll in Insurance. I had to Turn OFF Identity Safe to get the Right information in. Is there a way to have it ONLY fill-in a Log-in Page, and IGNORE other pages??

Re: Identity safe blindly fills up values/ cannot select non identity fields

@markfr........If I understand your problem correctly, that Norton ID Safe fills in every blank fill-in it comes across, this is what you can/might do to stop it.

First, make sure your Norton Tool Bar is visible.  Right-click anywhere on the space below the address box and make sure that Norton Tool Bar is checked.  If you can't find the Norton Tool Bar, most likely you'll have to download it from the Norton website.

Then, when you're on the exact page where ID Safe insists on filling in a blank fill-up box do this:

1. Click on Vault Is Open in the Norton Tool Bar.  A Menu will drop down.

2.  Hover your mouse pointer over Logins.  A second Menu will open up laterally.

3.  Move your mouse pointer sideways onto this new menu to the upper right hand corner where it says Options, and click on the small black triangle.  Another drop down Menu will appear with these options:  Ignore This Site, Don't Show Infobar for This site, and Report An Issue With This site.

4.  Click on Ignore This Site and I'm pretty sure this webpage won't be filled in with login info any longer.

Good Luck.......:)

As a P.S. this was one of my favorite features in previous versions of Norton but it was really hidden in the new version.  Took forever to find it.

Re: Identity safe blindly fills up values/ cannot select non identity fields

ID Safe doesn't try to fill EVERY fill-in space. Just the ones that are sometimes Required; and with information that is NOT being asked for in that field.

Norton Toolbar IS visible. I Want ID Safe to be working. I would Love it, if I could check off a box that says "Fill in Login page ONLY. Ignore non-login pages". I do Not want to have to be constantly turning Id Safe On , then Off.. Then On... Then Off.... Then...............

What if there was a choice to NOT Fill-in anything on a page, unless you specifically went to "Vault is Open" and CHOSE "Fill-in this page".

It is a PAIN, when you are filling something out, on an OFFICIAL SITE (City Gov't, IRS, Job Application), and you have to watch out for fields being filled with the WRONG PERSONAL information.

Re: Identity safe blindly fills up values/ cannot select non identity fields

Yes, auto-fill-ins can be Very helpful... As long as it is filling in the Right information. If you are trying to put an Order Number into a field, and Id Safe keeps filling in with your Telephone Number, it does NOT help! I am trying to remember exactly What was being filled in. I think that I might have been in too much of a RUSH to Note it down, and too Miffed to remember.

40 fields filled in for something that has GOT to GO Through... And you keep getting an "Invalid Data" from a field with a Yellow fill and a Check-mark.

As I said... Maybe have the Non-Login page fill-in as a Specific clickable item. It won't try, unless you Actually Go and Click it.

Re: Identity safe blindly fills up values/ cannot select non identity fields

Hi markfr,

Have you tried changing the Auto Fill and/or Auto Submit options on the individual log ins - lower right.

Auto-fill

Automatically fills your login for the website when you visit.

Symantec recommends that you select this option to fill the login information for the webpage.

Auto-submit

Automatically logs you in to the website.

You can use these two options to control the filling in and or the logging in.

Perhaps a bit of playing around with them will get you closer to what you desire.
