Identity Safe with Edge causes slow browser keyboard input

I began noticing slow keyboard input in websites opened with Edge around the end of 2017 while having the Identity Safe extension installed. (Sorry, I don't remember the Identity Safe extension version or which version number of Windows 10 I had installed at that time.) After having used Chrome with Identity Safe for many months I decided to return to Edge just recently. After tinkering around and through a process of elimination I finally discovered the laggy and slow keyboard input in text boxes stopped when I turned off or uninstalled the Edge Identity Safe extension. When I turned it back on or reinstalled it, the laggy/slow text box input returned. Just like a toggle switch - night and day. It affects Amazon, Ars Technica, MSN, and many other websites with text input boxes. (Curiously it doesn't affect Bing or Google...)

I know I will get the answer to run Chrome to avoid the problem. I have done this, and it is fine but I am heavily integrated with the MS ecosystem rather than Google, and having to use Chrome to make Identity Safe work without essentially breaking the web experience is ridiculous.

There is a thread on Microsoft's forums about this as well (few replies so far):

I am currently running Windows 10 Pro v. 1803,  OS Build 17134.228.

Identity Safe is Edge v. 5.4.2.19

Edge version is 42.17134.1.0     EdgeHTML 17.17134

Re: Identity Safe with Edge causes slow browser keyboard input

Hi @MechWarrior360,

Thanks for reporting in Norton Community Forums. We are investigating the issue currently and will let you know the version of Norton Identity Safe extension in which this issue will be addressed for Microsoft Edge browser.

@Sunil_GA

I am a Me Too on this one - I have not tried uninstalling the Edge Identity Safe Extension - but will the next time I encounter it.

I thought it was the Edge browser itself causing it, not even thinking Norton could be the problem child.

@Sunil_GA

Logged on this AM to Face Book, started typing a post and my typing was appearing slowly - turned off Identity Safe extension in Edge and although my typing is normally not really fast - it was keeping up with the keystrokes I was making rather than delaying it's appearance.   BTW I am on the same build and version of Edge/ID Safe as MechWarrior360 - just on Windows 10 Home instead of Pro.

Re: Identity Safe with Edge causes slow browser keyboard input

Me too. PAINFULLY SLOW, the whole i7 laptop!

It's also odd that the Norton program doesn't include the Edge browser extension and that has to be sepperately downloaded from the MS Store, but I guess that's an MS requirement?

Anyway, trying to use Edge instead of old insecure IE or "Slurp Central's" Chrome browser, but until Norton sort this Identity Safe's excruciatingly slow performance on Edge I am stuck on the other options. I wish there was more love for Edge, it's a very decent browser.
