Identity Safe Extension No Longer Working After Windows 10 Cumulative Update

Edge extension suddenly stopped working apparently after the most recent Windows 10 cumulative update [yesterday]. IS still works with IE.

Re: Identity Safe Extension No Longer Working After Windows 10 Cumulative Update

I am getting the same thing with Edge and Firefox on 2 systems.

If I use IE I can sign in to the same account and online vault with no problems.

Something broke the Edge and Firefox extensions.

After the Cumulative update yesterday they were still working until I signed in today, so I believe it is a Norton problem.

Hello

I'm reporting the issue is affecting Edge also. Norton knows about FF issue and is working on it 24/7.

Thanks.

Hello PhoneMan

Not when I look at the Status page I see an Orange Exclamation Mark. Earlier it was Red.

Yea, it's down again. I was able to log in a bit ago and the Vault is still working in Edge but can't log in anymore.

Re: Identity Safe Extension No Longer Working After Windows 10 Cumulative Update

After the update I experienced a problem using Identity Safe with Edge as well but as reported here it did again start working. That is until today! I have 2 desktops that are almost identical and on the same network but on 1 I can log onto IS and the other just spins and spins...no response, no time out, just spin.

I have rebooted, reinstalled the extension but still have the same problem. Everything works very well with Chrome and IE so is this a problem with MS or Norton? This is a real pain in the arse!!

Hi HoveR,

This could be operational hiccups that happened this morning.  Can you please try again?  If you are still experiencing the issue, please let us know and our Norton ID Safe team will check further on this.

Thanks

Katie

Thank you for the reply Katie and yes, it is working now. I will just keep my fingers crossed.

This might be another topic but I am running the stand alone version of Norton ID Safe and am wondering if that is still supported with updates when necessary?

Re: Identity Safe Extension No Longer Working After Windows 10 Cumulative Update

This is probably a beta product that Norton has let loose on a hapless user community. The problems with Norton and Windows 10 seem to be endless and frustrating at times. It is as if there is a battle between the two to acquire our desktop space..... ! IS proves problematic as you cannot disable it from your startup services no matter what you do! Norton should find a way out soon - my admiration for the NAV product is laced with a tinge of disappointment for now!

You may not be able to stop the service because Norton Product Tamper Protection is protecting the product, as it should. You can disable Identity Safe in the Quick Controls section when you click on Settings in the main Norton screen.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Identity Safe Extension No Longer Working After Windows 10 Cumulative Update

Disabling the Identity Safe from the quick controls does not remove it from the Windows 10 Startup items!

There are issues with the ID safe (Vault) in Chrome 64 bit version under Windows 10. While functionality is unaffected, the status in the tool bar shows 'Vault is Closed' even when logged in and the App is running. This is how it works on my system(giving you the action sequence) - Launch Chrome, login to IS vault, close Chrome, re launch Chrome, Vault shown as closed in the 'Tool Bar' even though it is up and running and autofill ins function! Norton Support had a look but could not resolve this issue!

Trust Norton listening!

Re: Identity Safe Extension No Longer Working After Windows 10 Cumulative Update

Chrome has a happen of allowing itself to run in the background (buried in settings). Chrome may never exit once it's opened. Who knows what that does to your browser sessions.

Is it Chrome itself, or background apps that help Chrome?

Re: Identity Safe Extension No Longer Working After Windows 10 Cumulative Update

As I understand it if those things are running in the background, chrome is open and doesn't get a full restart, it just goes invisible when you close all the windows and when you open chrome again it just creates a new window (without starting a new browser session).

So if something closes with the browser and the browser never closes, then what happens?

Re: Identity Safe Extension No Longer Working After Windows 10 Cumulative Update

From my link

Many extensions and web apps use background pages that do their work where you can't see them. For example, if you use Google Mail Checker, a background page works to send new message alerts.

Background apps work entirely in the background and run even after you close the Chrome browser.

So I take that to say that it is the extensions and web apps that can run in the background even after closing the browser. And when I look at task manager after closing Chrome, there is no process for Google Chrome.

Re: Identity Safe Extension No Longer Working After Windows 10 Cumulative Update

It can stay open if it wants to, not that it will in all cases. In any case it would not be behavior that I would want from a browser.
