Identity Safe limited compatibility with Firefox: Possible solution

I have found an easy solution to get Identity Safe working with Firefox. It works with Firefox 45, at least. If you run Firefox as Administrator, it works just fine. I am using Windows 8.1. The automatic logins are now working again.

Re: Identity Safe limited compatibility with Firefox: Possible solution

Hello Steven

Are you using the Firefox password manager or Norton's password manager. If it is Norton's, how are you accessing it?

Thanks.

When you click on the three dots on the Norton Toolbar on Firefox you can click on "Open Identity Safe Settings" when you close that you have the Identity Safe logon screen or it you have already logged on you have a list of your logons.  It won't autofill the web page login but you do have access to the login information.  I am running Firefox 46 (yes Norton works with Firefox 46) and you do not need to run Firefox as an administrator.

That is a workaround since FF41 when the auto-fill stopped working.

Its the auto-fill that we are waiting on.

Re: Identity Safe limited compatibility with Firefox: Possible solution

This is addressed to the OP, Steven Procopus, are you saying that the login for the page you are on will auto-fill on the web page or that it will offer to fill it, or show you your multiple logins? Or are you saying if you go into the identity safe and find your login then click the arrow (which used to cause it to open the site and autofill) it will auto-fill like it's supposed to? For the past several months no auto-fill of any kind has worked.

The only thing we've been able to do is open the identity safe and manually copy the username and PW, which has cut my productivity down to a crawl. I've switched to LastPass, but it's extremely slow going getting my new logins saved into it. I tried every which way to import my logins from a backup but I couldn't get it to work. Once my logins are all in LastPass, at least I won't have to deal with the lag where Norton doesn't update fast enough when Firefox updates anymore. It was always a problem, but this latest incident it absolutely ridiculous. It really irks me that they focus on what THEY think is important and not what is important to so many of their customers.

Re: Identity Safe limited compatibility with Firefox: Possible solution

You can export your Vault logins and then import them to LastPass.

Norton Identity Safe allows exporting passwords as plain text in a CSV file. Once you export the CSV file, ensure that a blank line is inserted between the first and second line to correctly import your data.

You can then go to your LastPass Icon > My LastPass Vault > More Options > Advanced > Import > Generic CSV file and choose the Norton Identity Safe file.

Read the guide so you get the CSV sorted out before you import.

Re: Identity Safe limited compatibility with Firefox: Possible solution

When I follow those instructions and just add a blank line between the headers (first line) and the data (second line), when I import the CSV, LastPass doesn’t recognize the URLs from the logins for some reason. The notes from my Norton CSV are imported properly and they are the first things in the Norton CSV, but LastPass doesn’t recognize the URLs in my logins which follow the notes.

When you are using the import in LastPass, it shows you what it has imported, both the headers and the data below and instead of the URL from my Norton CSV being in the URL data field, it says in red “NOTE: This site has been unchecked by default because its URL is blank!” and all of the URLs are not there are so all the login entires are unchecked. It would allow me to import all the rest of the login if I chose to check them all, but they wouldn’t work because it wouldn’t have the URL. I’ve looked in my Norton CSV and the URLs are there and are first, but LastPass just doesn’t see the URL.

I’ve tried other methods also described in these two posts:

Other methods I’ve seen are:

https://www.stickypassword.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=73&t=85354

A post on the stickypassword.com forum talking about how to import a CSV into LastPass by reorganizing the CSV headers and data to match a LastPass CSV:

https://www.stickypassword.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=78&t=85306

Here are the formats I’ve encountered in my many tries to get this to work:

LastPass CSV formats

From the export of a CSV file from a LastPass vault – I verified this myself

url,username,password,extra,name,grouping,fav

From the sample spreadsheet from LastPass –says if you want to use your own spreadsheet

url,type,username,password,hostname,extra,name,grouping

From what it shows in the import screen after I try to import the Norton CSV

name,username,password,group,notes,url

Norton CSV Format

url,username,password,name,grouping,extra

Has anyone successfully imported a Norton CSV? If so, can you give me step by step instructions? There are SO MANY of us Norton customers who are suffering since the Identity Safe Vault is broken with Firefox, so this would help myself and many many others.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give!

Re: Identity Safe limited compatibility with Firefox: Possible solution

In Firefox 45, and as of today, 46, the Identity Safe bar doesn't display when clicking the Firefox icon (normal start).  If I run it as Administrator, Identity Safe shows up, but clicking the 3 dots does nothing.  If I close Firefox and go back in as Administrator, Identity Safe doesn't show, unless I reboot, but it still doesn't work.

The Identity Safe extension version doesn't match the latest Norton Security update version, but clicking on 'Update' in Firefox Extensions reports the latest version is in place.

Is there a way to manually remove the Identity Safe extension, then reinstall it?  Firefox 'Help' only discusses disabling, not removing.  As a side note, starting Firefox in Safe Mode doesn't help either.  I'm having no trouble with Identity Safe in IE11.

I wonder if uninstalling Firefox, then Norton Security, and then reinstalling Firefox, downloading/installing Identity Safe on it, then re-installing Norton Security would do the trick.  Has anyone tried that?

Thoughts?

Re: Identity Safe limited compatibility with Firefox: Possible solution

Hello Toyman

If you are on Win 10, please disable Fast Startup and restart. If that doesn't help, you can uninstall Firefox and then use the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool. Please read the warning paragraph and remember to run Live Update.

https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v60392881_EndUserProfile_en_us

www.norton.com/nrnr

Please DO NOT reinstall your Identity Safe separately into the program. When Norton Security reinstalls, it contains the Identity Safe. After your Norton Security has been reloaded up, then you can install your Firefox again. When all done with the Updates, please restart one more time. If you install Identity Safe separately, you will end up with 2 Identity Safes and then have more issues.

You are aware that the identity Safe is being worked on for Firefox, so maybe some of the issues may be due to the construction of the Toolbar for all 4 browsers.

Thanks.

Hello

If you have automatic updates turned on in Firefox and it keeps updating on top of the previous versions, is it not possible that perhaps Firefox needs a fresh uninstall and reinstall? Also please see this.

Re: Identity Safe limited compatibility with Firefox: Possible solution

Hello, is there any estimate from Norton in which time frame the issue will be fixed? The issue exists now for a couple of months and it doesnt seem that there are relevant news.

A work around as admin sounds good, but I am not surfing in web as admin for security reasons and have my settings for my work office and not for the admin.

I think its time for Norton to tell us as their clients if they want to fix the issue and when this might happen.

Re: Identity Safe limited compatibility with Firefox: Possible solution

Yes, exactly, it's been months with promises of a fix for NTB with ID Safe working for Firefox, and still nothing from Norton? Will they discount the next renewal for current, long time users of NIS, due to their product missing a very key, highly utilized feature set for going on a year now?

Re: Identity Safe limited compatibility with Firefox: Possible solution

Hello

Have you looked around the Forum for the Updates that have been given by Norton? Here is one long thread with updates by Tony Weiss, Administrator from Symantec.. Tony has been giving updates every few weeks on the top of this thread and some in the thread also.

https://community.norton.com/en/forums/identity-safe-limited-compatibility-firefox-current-status

There are Blog announcements also. I think that is where they are located. I know there are more updates by other Symantec Employees.. As far as discounts etc., the time to ask such things is when the extension is completed. I think you should ask Firefox just when they will be finished with their work on extensions. Norton's Identity Safe is going to work with Edge, Firefox, Chrome and IE. Microsoft has to allow more extensions in Edge, Mozilla has to complete their changes that has been going on  with extensions. There is limited compatibility now with the Toolbar. There is supposed to be another part finished in Aug. after the Anniversary Update for Windows 10. As time gets closer, there will be more updates also.

Thanks.

Re: Identity Safe limited compatibility with Firefox: Possible solution

If it's so difficult for Norton, how is it that LastPass is still working in Firefox? Also, Norton knew about the changes to the extensions that FF was going to make like 9 months before hand, at least that is what I read in a FF employee;s post when all this first went down. I am not saying it's ONLY Norton's fault, but I don't pay Firefox, I pay Norton and expected a solution MUCH sooner, it's been like 8 months since the Identity Safe and Vault stopped working.

Re: Identity Safe limited compatibility with Firefox: Possible solution

I am also so frustrated with the safe not working like it used to. I use firefox 99% of the time and have many FF logins now that remember password because the safe don't work, it is silly to easily go in FF and you can look at the password and login info by anyone using the computer. I got norton because of the safe, liked the idea and didn't trust other programs that offered logins automatically. So I switch the security virus provider to go with Norton to only loose what I bought it for mainly.

I came here today after waiting months and months of coming soon to see it is evidently still not resolved. Lets get going here Norton it is getting old already waiting and paying for 90% delivery of this product

Re: Identity Safe limited compatibility with Firefox: Possible solution

Well it is September 1st and Norton's vault is still a no work in FireFox. This is friggin ridiculous. When are we going to have a fix or does Norton need to be sued before they will do anything. This customer service is a bad as Blackberry's and we know how that went. Norton at least give us a morsel so we have an idea what you ARE doing and when it is going to be done!

Hello Ron

Did you try restarting your computer a couple of times so that it settles in?

Thanks..

The vault does not work from the three dots. Look for a new icon at the right end of the FF address bar.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.
