Identity Safe Login Not letting me save login data to a folder.

Identity Safe is not letting me save Login data to a folder.  Not asking which folder or allowing a choice of a folder.  Only it asks if I want to save; then only lets to save or not, without giving the choice of letting me choose a folder for the login.  BAD.  VERY BAD BAD BAD BAD.  Put Norton Internet Security back together again!  Make Toolbar and Identity Safe work properly.

This system is:  Windows XP s.p. 3 (and yes, updated), NIS 2013 (and fully updated), Firefox Browser version 16.0.1

So is the answer that the way Identity Safe works is now different and that to put a login into a folder you:

  1. Visit the site and login,
  2. When Identity Safe asks to save or not, click the SAVE button near top of browser,
  3. LATER, go to Vault button in the toolbar, choose Settings, choose Edit Logins,
  4. Find the out-of-place login item and right-click on it,
  5. Choose the folder where to move the login item
  6. Note that if you can not see the loose item in step 5, then see if it is in the mysterious folder called, "Search", and if it is, then right-click it there and choose which folder to move to.

What a long effort.  This should be in both the tutorial and in the help file ----- wait!  We have no helpfile with our NIS 2013 product.  Asking for help in the product brings up our default browser and a website on the internet which is not nearly as neat as having the actual help file in CHM form on our own computer.

...In any case, I want to choose the folder AT THE BEGINNING of saving a login just as we could before this NIS version.

Re: Identity Safe Login Not letting me save login data to a folder.

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback.

In NIS/N360 2013 products there is feature called Auto-Catogarization which automaitcally creates Folders based on the webpage you store logins for.

For example:- If you store a Login for "Facebook.com" page then your login credential will be stored under folder called

"Social Networking" in "Edit Logins" UI and from the Tool Bar.

Launch NIS/N360 2013 product UI -> Click "Settings" ->  Click "Web" -> Click "Identity Safe" and click "Configure" link pertaining to "Browsing Options" and check whether "Auto-Categorization" check box is enabled in your settings.

If its shown unchecked then please check it and wait for few minutes for your logins to be auto-categorized under folders.

These folder will automatically vanish from your UI if it does not have any logins under it and re-appeasr when you store a login again.

Re: Identity Safe Login Not letting me save login data to a folder.

viveksu,

Auto-categorization is not a feature, in the way you describe, that I want to happen.  I want NOTHING autocategorized.  I want the set of folders as I already created, and I must choose where any new login combination goes.  I don't want NIS to scramble all of my current login sets.  NIS and Identity Safe will not know what set of folders I will want.  It will not know where I want to put any new or current login combination.  This auto-categorization is one of the most disruptive parts of NIS.

viveksu,

I followed the Settings path as you described just to see what it looks like.  The Autocategorize box already has a check mark in it.  Maybe if I REMOVE the check mark, then Identity Safe might offer me a folder choice when I save a login combination  -----

I wish

Re: Identity Safe Login Not letting me save login data to a folder.

Hi viveksu,

Some definite clarification is in order here. In Identity Safe in NIS 2013, either we can or cannot name our folders. Or is it set up that only Norton can name our folders.

Right now in NIS 2012, I name my own folders and it works out perfectly. One of my folders in Identity Safe I simply have named Bill Pay. That's where I keep my logins for bills I pay online. Nice and simple!!

I fully agree with g_cafe_c. I also don't want any of my logins auto-categorized. Within Identity Safe, I can categorize and organize logins myself.

If we disable the feature in Browsing Options, can we create and name our own folders.

Thanks in advance,

Ed

Hi Ed,

I have Auto-Catogarization turned OFF.  when I go to Edit Logins this is the header I see:

Clicking on the Create New Folder gives you this:

So it does appear you can still set up your own folders.  I do not use Folders for my logins.

Hope this helps.

Re: Identity Safe Login Not letting me save login data to a folder.

Hi Yank,

That is reassuring to know, when I'm ready for version 20. Just like in My Documents, it wouldn't set well if I couldn't name my own folders. I only use two folders in Identity Safe, but I have had four. It's nice and convenient to be able to name them what you want. Otherwise, like you, I have the rest of my logins individual in the edit logins list. I will keep that in mind to disable that feature when the time comes.

Thanks again,

Ed

BTW, I forgot to mention , that it is the same way in my Online Vault.  So you can create folders the same way Online and Local.
