Identity Safe logs missing after reinstall

I had Norton Security with my service provider.  When we moved the service provider was cancelled and eventually the Norton Security stopped working.  I purchased the Norton Security 2016 program and installed it.  Now Identity safe does not show as active.  On my previous install, I could transfer my logins (from a jumpdrive) to another computer if necessary.  However, it appears this is not an option and it is asking me to sign up for a new account, which appears to be cloud based.  Is there a way to reinstall the old login information and have it resident on my computer or jumpdrive?   I am using IE 11 with windows 10

Re: Identity Safe logs missing after reinstall

Hi BillRo,

Just curious who your service provider was?  By chance Comcast?

Regardless, did you uninstall  via Programs and Features and run the Norton Removal Tool prior to installing your new Norton Security 2016?

Please also do a search in WIN 10 (using the Search the web and Windows feature by the WIN 10 logo in the lower left corner) for IDDStor2.dat   If you can locate that file it should contain your encrypted ID Safe data - which you can Import into your new Norton Account.

The method you mention (jump drive) transfer was done away with when the cloud vault came into use.

If you had Comcast, it used a local vault and that vault was tied to a Windows user account, whereas the Cloud Vault is tied to the Norton Account - which Comcast did not have.

Please let us know the answer to our questions.

Re: Identity Safe logs missing after reinstall

Yes, it was Comcast that was my service provider.   I did a search for the IDDStor2.dat and did not find it on my computer, so I'm sure it was uninstalled when I did the Norton Removal Tool process.  I'm not sure I'm comfortable having my identity information stored in the cloud so not sure how I will proceed with that process.  Thank you for your information.

BillRo,

The NRT, nor the NRnRT does not remove a Local Vault's IDDStor2.dat file.

@yank

Was the Jumpdrive option a backup of the vault, as in .dat format? If Bill still has the drive, maybe it could be done for an Import?

The information below might help to get you a Local vault again. It also pins down where the idstore2.dat file is located. But with the work Norton is doing with the new ID Safe Toolbars, it may not work for much longer. Be sure you back up any vault you do end up using.

As long as you have had a local vault at some time it is possible to regain it if you have been converted to the online vault. Check the information gathered by user elsewhere in this thread.   https://community.norton.com/en/forums/retaining-your-local-vault

Hello Peterweb

Comcast does not have a Norton Account, so how does it have an online vault?

Thanks

The OP used to have Comcast, and installed NS after they moved. That would create an online vault if the user decided to use ID Safe. So I gave the link to elsewhere's post for regaining a local vault, in case it was any help in finding the old local vault from the Comcast version.

Re: Identity Safe logs missing after reinstall

Thanks, that's all good info on getting my old vault info back.  I do have a paper backup of all my info so I can still input it all again, just wanted to avoid that if I could import .
