Identity Safe on Toolbar missing Vault - pages no longer autofill

Assuming an update went through, I lost the usual Norton toolbar with Identity Safe sometime yesterday... went from this:

To this:

I am using Firefox, and have NOT updated because of the recent incompatibility issue with Firefox's recent update v41.

Thankfully, the laptop was fine, so I used it during the evening... Until the same thing happened to it!

Both are Windows 10. When I log-into the vault, all the passwords and website settings are there, but going to a site manually from the Identity Safe Logins screen still does nothing.

What am I missing?

This is what I asked about in another thread and never got a good reply!!! I am on Firefox 40 and asked if the "patch" would get pushed to me and BREAK IDSafe....Seriously NORTON, I do NOT want the patch until you have IDSafe working as well

Re: Identity Safe on Toolbar missing Vault - pages no longer autofill

The Norton update patch which was written in a new Firefox compliant code was sent out to all users  Unfortunately the  vault part that stores passwords has not yet been rewritten and is not compatible with the new patch. Their also seems to be an incompatibility between this update and NoScript.  I disabled NoSctipt until the issue is resolved.

Unfortunately, a "Patch" from Norton is forced and the vault no longer works with Firefox 40. I have switched over to Chrome, where the Vault feature does work. I had to Import my Bookmarks to Chrome from Firefox. Since the Vault does not work with Microsoft Edge, not much of a choice. Chrome does work great.

ABSOLUTELY INSANE!!  Norton should have never issued a forced update until it was COMPLETELY compatible with Firefox 42.  I mean come one, Firefox has a vast number of users -- so we don't have to deal with Microsoft Explorer (Edge) and yet Symantec totally ignored this fact.  I'm beginning to wonder what I'm getting for my money when Norton takes such a stupid move.

Not good. Sad to see there are thousands that are experiencing the same train-wreck.

The vault works fine in Chrome. Switch to Chrome and import your bookmarks from Firefox. This will get you by until Symantec fixes the problem with Firefox.

Are you using NoScript?

If so, this thread may be useful:

You could try the workaround (open a second Firefox window and then close the first window) to see if it works for you - if so, it might be preferable to disabling NoScript.

Limited Compatibility of Norton Toolbar for Firefox 41 and 42

https://community.norton.com/en/blogs/product-update-announcements/firefox-41-and-42-limited-support-norton-toolbar

The limited functionality was not a complete surprise except the effect on FF40. If you think about the reason for the new toolbar--to make a toolbar which would be compatible with the new components in FF41 and forward, it does make sense that the new toolbar would break FF40. I agree that the Team should have realized this and make some provision for those on FF40.

Thanks.

@joediver13:

I don't think this is the way to go if you want a good product.
I, personally, chose to use Firefox over chrome for a couple of reasons.
Now 'forcing' me to go to chrome or IE (edge) is ridiculous.
Why can't symantec wait with the patch until everything is ready?

Re: Identity Safe on Toolbar missing Vault - pages no longer autofill

Hello

I'm not a Symantec Employee, so I don't know what the reasons are for decision to provide the Toolbar as a number of patches. I do know it is a huge project to completely rebuild a Toolbar which provides many different functions. I do know that some people use different parts or functions of the Toolbar than others use. If any of the Employees on this Toolbar Team had asked me what is the most important part of the toolbar or what should be in the first part of it, I would have said the Identity Safe. I do not use it or the Toolbar except I do like the Annotations which are the little signs like the Green Go in case you don't know that.

I would have told them to pick the part of the toolbar that is most important to most of the customers if the project had to be divided up. I would have suggested to do that part first. I suppose they had their reasons which are unknown to me.

Part 2 should contain the Identity Safe and other features like Auto fill in and the rest of the missing features. Doing it in parts like this does help those users who do like those parts that are done if they do work for you. From what I have been reading the last few days, not too many are happy with a partial Toolbar which broke FF 40. I figured it would break it since this toolbar is supposed to work with the new versions and not the old once. I thought it would work with FF 41 & 42.

This weekend I will try and see if I can find out anything about the future plans so that the first phase can work. I won't get any answers that for sure over the weekend, but I can try and ask for any plans which I can tell the public or try to get Symantec to post another Announcement.

Thanks.

Re: Identity Safe on Toolbar missing Vault - pages no longer autofill

I have a similar problem on Chrome. The tool bar does display, but identity safe will not fill in the logon or password fields. This started to happen this morning. It has been slow to fill in for the last month or so, but I thought that was a hardware issue. I tried Internet Explorer and Identity Safe worked fine there.

Hello JamesMorison

Please try again. There might have been a server problem. They are sometimes intermittent.

Thanks.

Hi floplot. Thanks. Yesterday and this morning everything was back to normal.

About a half hour ago, the problem came back to both Chrome and Firefox. Internet Explorer works just fine. It does look like an intermittent, but I don't see any way to deal with it other than wait for it to fix itself, or switch to IE.

Re: Identity Safe on Toolbar missing Vault - pages no longer autofill

Hello James

Perhaps it even has to do with the reconstruction of the Norton Toolbar for Firefox. Norton is trying to make it similar to the one for Chrome so that it doesn't have to update the browser every time Mozilla makes a change.. No official word that is or might be the cause of the issue. I just came up with that idea now. I'm probably wrong with that idea. The problem is probably intermittent with firefox and chrome servers maybe.

Thanks.

Commenting on floplot's last comment, I don't understand why a quality product like Norton Identity Safe has to be constantly "upgraded" to work in sooo many other venues that it becomes less than what it started out to be. I'm just a tech by trade but it seems to me that "racing to get there first" just doesn't fill the bill when you're trying to address a simple problem (saving password and login info). Why must all code be the fix all for all problems? Please Norton, keep it simple. Thanks

Re: Identity Safe on Toolbar missing Vault - pages no longer autofill

Hello DOS User

First of all, I am not a Norton Employee.. There are some Announcements on the top of the Forum  concerning the Norton Toolbar for Firefox 41 & 42. Since Mozilla made such a radical change this time, it was felt by Symantec that the best way to deal with this change was to build a new Toolbar.

In order for the customers, it was decided by Symantec to do this job in 2 phases. If I had been consulted, I would have suggested that phase 2 should have been done first since most of the users are interested in having the ID Safe to use. Hopefully, once this toolbar is completed, it will work as all would like it to work.

The Toolbar in the past had to be changed to keep up with all of Mozilla's changes. The new Toolbar is supposed to be modeled like the Chrome Toolbar in that it won't have to be updated every time that Mozilla has to update their buggy browser or insecure browser.

Thanks.
