IE 11 Crashing

Last night, IE 11 stopped working on 3 of my computers. This morning I went to Firewall Settings & Intrusion and Browser Protection. I switched Intrusion Prevention Off and IE 11 started working immediately. This is just temporary fix though.

Re: IE 11 Crashing

I have windows 8, norton360, and EI crashed on me as well.  Assuming this is a problem for everyone who has Norton.  Will stay tuned for fix.  Thanks to the one who created this forum and to all who have contributed.

@nicole8000

Run LiveUpdate you should receive a fix. It'll say Norton IPS Definitions when it comes through.

Re: IE 11 Crashing

Interesting, I had the EXACT same symptoms as all of you, last night and when I first got on my computer this morning.

I opened up my Norton Internet Security and clicked on Support, then "Get Support" and it ran an auto fix which "successfully fixed 1 item" although it didn't tell me what that item was.  So I went to:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton Internet Security\NortonData\21.0.1.3\Definitions\IPSDefs

and sure enough, there was an additional folder, dated this morning and now my IE is fixed.

Hope this helps.  I'll post this on the other thread, as well.

This fix worked for me as well (after spending the morning fighting with it).

All security vendors make mistakes, It is indeed reassuring to know that Symantec detected the error early and was able to quickly put out a fix via Live Update:-)

Who ever wrote that has got one thing wrong,  Nikhil_CV is not Symantec staff.

Re: IE 11 Crashing

One got to love the IE 8 in the graphic - very current image!  LOL!!!

Plus as Krusty13 pointed out CV is not an employee and I do believe Krusty13 is in fact the one that initially alerted Norton to the error - oh and he is not an employee either!

Re: IE 11 Crashing

LOL :-)  Who cares who is or isn't a Symantec Employee or what graphic was used.

The issues was rapidly resolved by Symantec through Live Update to their credit.

BTW: Despite whatever errors were made in the above report, The Register is extremely highly respected, despite whatever shortcomings it may have. As we all know, the media in general is typically not totally accurate: just read a story about something which you witnessed or have personal knowledge of - sad but true.

Anyway, that fix was supersonic and effectively deployed.
Thanks to the behind the scene workers and Krusty13.
