Incompatible software - how to fix?

I recently "upgraded" from Norton 360 to Norton Security. During installation I got a message that one piece of software was incompatible, but installation did continue. The software is ABNAMRO e.dentifier2, needed to connect a device to add an electronic signature to bank transactions. That software still runs but is not recognised when trying to log into the bank. I uninstalled it, and reinstalled it again (no message from Norton) without any result. The bank obviously point at Symantec (and take no action, what a surprise), as Symantec users will probably point to the bank. But that does not solve my issue. Any suggestion how to find out what is blocked (and how it is blocked)?

I can add that the software worked fine with Norton 360.

Re: Incompatible software - how to fix?

If Norton Security is blocking it then it would be in your recent history. Look in there and if it is you can exclude it. You can also exclude the entire folder. Look under quarantine, firewall or sonar activity also.

  1. Start your Norton product.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Under Detailed Settings, click Antivirus.
  4. On the Scans and Risks tab, scroll down to Exclusions / Low Risks.
  5. Next to Items to Exclude from Auto-Protect, SONAR and Download Intelligence Detection row, click Configure.
  6. In the Real Time Exclusions window, click Add Folders or Add Files.
  7. Browse for and select the folders or files that you want to exclude from the scan, and then click OK.
  8. Click Apply, and then click OK."

You can also submit a false positive here:

Re: Incompatible software - how to fix?

Thanks for the suggestion. I excluded the folder. This includes the file for the add-on in Mozilla browser. After rebooting, I got a sort of reaction, but it showed "aborted" and after that would not work again. I also re-installed the software, to no avail. Normally I would have thought it had nothing to do with Norton, except that I got the message during the initial installation of Norton Security and since then it has not worked.

Note: the message in Norton was not that it was blocked, but that it was incompatible.

What does it say in your Norton history?

Re: Incompatible software - how to fix?

History is a long list (even just for one hour today). Several "Unauthorized access blocked"  (WMIPRVSE.EXE, ToDoBackup AGENT.EXE) However, nothing with this program. I tried "Disable Smart Firewall" and then it worked. But after turning Smart Firewall back on again it still works, so not sure if that did anything. But seems solved, or at least I have a work-around.

Re: Incompatible software - how to fix?

TodDoBackup is part of Easeus TodoBackup and is a safe program. WMIPRVSE.EX is part of Windows. Look in the firewall rules and make ABNAMRO e.dentifier2 a trusted program. Allow it. The history is broken down into sections.

Re: Incompatible software - how to fix?

I had already changed the firewall rules (based on above comments). However, I now found that the program always works with Google Chrome, and in Firefox shows these problems. So I now know it is a problem with this program, and not with Norton.

Thanks for the comments. I will also now exclude other programs being blocked which should not be.

Re: Incompatible software - how to fix?

I only use Google Chrome. It's the most secure browser around. Add uBlock Orign and you are all set.
