Internet based definitions

Am I correct in saying the NS does not store malware definitions on the local computer, and that ALL scans are dependant on there being an active Internet connection ?  If so, I'll stay on NIS until Norton release a non-cloud based product.  I don't want a cloud based product.

Re: Internet based definitions

I don't believe that is correct. LiveUpdate downloads virus definitions/protection updates and they're stored on your computer.

In fact they're stored here C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton Security\NortonData\22.1.0.9\Definitions

Windows 10 Pro 64-bit / Norton Security v.22.19.x

Re: Internet based definitions

Norton has reduced the size and dependency on local definitions. This is to improve the security protection that the product can offer (assuming you will be online  for a lot )
NIS will be supported and  maintained for an unforeseen  time frame eventhough it has been stopped to be produced. You can stay with it.

The local defs which are pushed to cloud based product along with behavior and other layers of protection  will be adequate  for offline protection .

That's my pov-
