On line back up is a disaster

I am getting sick to the stomach after reading the information on this forum.  Norton seems really negligent in not properly describing to us how the on-line restore system works (to be exact, how it doesen'twork).  My old computer crashed a couple of weeks ago so I got a new laptop and blithely started trying to restore my files. After more than a week of frustration, I got an on-line chat with a Norton tech last night who walked me through the process of restoring a couple of files. The system works if you have only a couple of word documents or a handfull of photos.  I have several years of word files and photos, and now I find out from Norton that there is no way to retrieve them in any logical order, and I was told by the Norton rep not to try to retrieve any more than 10 files or photos at a time as the system could not handle any more than that.  I hope I am wrong and that somwone out there can assist me in getting my files back and getting them in some kind of order.  I can't spend the next 3 months, 12 hours a day downloading 1or 2 files at a time.  It seems to me that Norton has seriously mis-represented this product.  I have paid for this for years and actually felt safe that I had everything backed. I should have listened to my brother and bought another hard drive or 2 as a backup.  It would have been a lot easier and safer and cheaper if you add up all the years I've paid for this.

Sorry to hear you've had a less than positive support experience which has resulted in some mis-information. The product can properly restore more than 10 files at a time. It is suggested to restore content in batches so you can grab the critical items first but there is no hard set limit on having to restore in that manner. What precise method have you tried in restoring besides using the Download File option?

My data was stored by norton in two sets of files.  I was successful, after many tries to retrieve the smaller of the two, only to find out it was useless date from 2008. It was when I tried to restore the other data set that was much larger, and was the data that I needed, that I kept getting error messages after all night attempts to retrieve the data.  The norton rep that I dealt with on line said specifically that I could only download approx.10 files at a time. She specifically said that I should try no more than either 10 photos or 10 word documents.  I have 507 MB of data in this one set. It would take months to retrieve this 10 files at a time.  Also, I remember that when I first purchashed the norton backup that I was able to access my data on line and delete files that I no longer wanted.  I cannot find that option anywhere now on the norton website.  The data that is backed up is mixed up with useless junk that is on the computer such as games from the computer mfg that I don't need a copy of.  Why would I want to have a copy of this.  The additional problem that I have with the norton on line backup now that I have tried to use it, is that the information is not in the order it is on my computer. It seems to be randomly scattered around and certainly not in the files I had it in. Granted, I can sort by pictures or financial files, but it is in no order.  I have to find another way to backup my data,as the norton back up is in my view unusable and a misrepresntation.  I have wasted hundreds of dollars over the last 5 or 6 years and now when I need it it is simply unusable. Ireallyfeel like I have beenripped off.

Given that I have recieved no answer to my posts that solves the problem of restoring my files, I guess I will have to deal with it another way and with no real help from norton.  I am going to take my old computer to a local shop where they say they can  possibly retrieve the data on my hard drive.  I shouldn't have to do this as I have been paying norton for years to back-up my data. Looking for help on this forum is futile, so perhaps I can save someone else the time and money I have wasted hoping to get norton to have their product perform as promised.  I am really pissed of at the theives at norton who would take my money for years and then essentially say "sorry,our product is a piece of crap and we can't help you now that we have your money"  . So, anyone else who is thinking of wasting their hard earned money on norton on line backup, save yourself a lot of money and frustration and go buy an external hard drive and back up your own files.  I appears that that is the only way you can be sure of retrieving your data if your computer crashes as mine did.

I'm sorry you've been misdirected or misled. The info you given is beyond wrong. All the features, including the option to restore all content, are readily available. I'll send you a private message requesting some details so a member of my Tier 3 team can review everything with you. We'll get this all sorted for you and help show the investment was not in vain.
