Live Update Current Patch

Hello:   My comp. is running the most current version of Norton Internet Security -- active subscription.

When I click on "apply" for the most current live update patch,  I/m advised to close Internet Explorer before the patch can be applied even tho I have NO IE programs running.

Possibly IE is running in the background somewhere?  I checked the startup menu using msconfig and IE is not showing.

I'm at a loss as to what to do.  Thanx for any help/suggestions.

Re: Live Update Current Patch

That sounds bizarre.  I have never heard of a Norton patch that required IE to be closed.  Can you post a screenshot of the notification you are seeing?

Re: Live Update Current Patch

It is bizarre. I've used print screen and snipping tool and other apps (even scanning and savings) to get it to show up here to no avail.   Won't copy/paste here, once I have a copy in my documents file; Sooooo I guess I'll just wait it out and maybe it will take the next time I restart the computer.

Thanx for your reply.  If it works after a restart, I'll check back to see if anyone else is having the same problem.

Re: Live Update Current Patch

"First select “Choose file” this should open yet another window which allows you to browse the files on your own computer. Select the file you want (.jpg, .png and .gif files seem to work, I am not sure about others) and click on the “Open” button (you can also double click on the file you want). This will put the name of the file you have selected on the right of the “Choose File” button."

Did that several times.  The file will not appear to the right of the browse selection -- that add a new file box remains greyed out..  It's a png file too so I don't know.  Maybe the size is the problem?  I'll try again.

Thank you very much for your post.   Going to copy/paste the instructions.

Re: Live Update Current Patch

Try opening MS Paint and paste the image there. Then Save As...jpg file. That you can use to post the image from the instructions bjm_ linked to.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Live Update Current Patch

Thanx for your reply Peter.

Now the message on the LiveUpdate screen has changed.  No message about IE appears when "apply now" is clicked on.  The screen now reads the patch will be applied the next time the comp. is restarted.

Norton must have taken some flack over that stupid IE message.

Thanx to e 1 for your help.  I learned a lot from your comments.

Re: Live Update Current Patch

Hello

With IE 11, if you don't apply the patch right away, then it will get applied with next restart. That is the normal occurrence.

Thanks.

Re: Live Update Current Patch

Hi:

You are absolutely right, I ran LiveUpdate, cancelled it and then downloaded/updated windows files (reminder been bugging me for days) and restarted.  Problem with LiveUpdate is now gone.  In the future I know not to allow this to cause me concern.  I still don't know why the program requested me to close programs running IE when I had none but.....

Thanks so much for your reply.

Hello

It sounds like something had updates at the same time as your Norton product..

Thanks.

Re: Live Update Current Patch

Hi:

Yes, I never allow windows to auto update or any apps. for that matter.  Windows update put a bunch of KB files on this comp (running win7) preparing it to receive win10.  I deleted those.  For the last couple days MS$ wanted to download/install 13 updates and flash also needed updating so I ran LiveUpdate, downloaded all the updates from windows and flash, restarted the comp. and now everything is working fine.  Well last time I checked, that is.

Thanx again to e 1 for your suggestions.  I learned a bit more about running the Accessories apps. because of the answers here.
