Live Update does not run automatically

I'm using Norton 360. build 22.16.4.15 on a Windows 10 64 bit system.

Under the Antivirus settings. I have Automatic Live Update set to "ON" and Apply Updates Only on Reboot set to "OFF"

The automatic update never seems to run. I manually check Live Update multiple times a day and often find multiple updates on several occasions throughout the day.

I don't understand why this isn't being done automatically. Running the autofix shows nothing wrong with Norton.

Re: Live Update does not run automatically

Ray, Norton sometimes requires a full restart to update properly.

Also,if you have Fast Start Up enabled, disable it as it is known to cause issues with updates.

If this doesn't fix the problem, you may want to use the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool to give you a fresh install.

If used, run Live Update manually until no more are found and then restart your machine.

Let us know how you go.

Re: Live Update does not run automatically

Just because you find updates when you manually run LiveUpdate does not mean the automatic LiveUpdate is not working. The Automatic LiveUpdate runs every hour and picks up any new updates that have been added to the servers since your last updates. If, 10 minutes after an automatic LiveUpdate was run, Norton adds new updates to the servers and you manually run LiveUpdate you will get those new updates. Also, if you happen to manually run it right after the automatic run, you may find no updates available. Its all in the timing.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Live Update does not run automatically

Thanks guys!

I had fast start up enabled, changed now. Hopefully that resolves it.

I don't think i t has anything to do with me running it manually. I run it way too often and find updates to have that many coincidences.

Re: Live Update does not run automatically

Hello

Try not to check for updates too often. Please give Automatic Live Update a chance to work. Even if it checks every hour, if there are no updates at that time, you won't know if Auto Live Update tried to get updates or not. There are 24 hours in a day. There usually are not 24 updates in a day to get and sometimes there are more than one update to pick up. Another thing to remember is that Automatic Live Updates do not check every hour at exactly hour intervals. Don't check for Auto Live Updates for a day or 2 and then see if you have any Auto Live  Updates. There are also many updates which is done in the clouds also.

Have a Good Night and

Thanks.

Your manually running LiveUpdate will not affect the automatic running of LiveUpdate. The only affect it would have is the number of updates it will find if you have already manually received updates.

You can check on whether Automatic LiveUpdate is running by checking your Norton History. Open your Norton product and double click on the Security pillar. Then click on History. From the drop down list beside Show, scroll to the bottom of the list and click on LiveUpdate. Then double click on any item in that list and it will show the Type of Update. Your manual runs will show Interactive, the automatic runs will show Automatic.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Peterweb,

Thank you for that piece of information. After reviewing the History, I did find numerous automatic entries as well as my "interactive" ones.

Re: Live Update does not run automatically

Ray,  glad all seems to be working okay now.

FWIW, when I log on I run Live Update manually, and from then on let Norton do its thing.

That way, you're up to date right from logging in.
