Live Update doesn't install toolbar patch

I have spent over an hour clicking "Check for new updates" constantly and after maybe 20 clicks it MIGHT decide to check.  Even if I click ONCE and wait 5 minutes it doesn't work.  What's the point of clicking to check if it's not going to actually check??  And no, uninstalling and reinstalling didn't fix it.  I tried that once before and lost my ID Safe for over ONE YEAR because when I tried reinstalling it from your website for some reason when it would get to the point of doing the final part of the install it would crash EVERY SINGLE TIME and bring up an error log and tell me I could submit it to Norton (which I did every single time).  I even downloaded the installation file again many times trying to make sure I wasn't getting a corrupt file.  I tried everything.  I even posted on a couple of forums trying to get help and finally just gave up and used it on my phone and prayed I never lost that!

Finally, when I upgraded to Windows 10 I thought I'd try it again just for the heck of it and I don't know if it was the new version of Windows or the fact that there's been many different version of Firefox or Norton ID Safe but something clicked and let me install it again.  I'm not about to uninstall this sucker again to try to get the stupid patch to install.  So, other than clicking "Check for updates" until my hand falls off what other option do you suggest for when a patch is finally available for the Standalone version for Firefox 40???

Instead of rolling out a patch through live update that rarely ever actually works like it's supposed to why can't you just put a link on the website to go to so we can clink on the link and download the patch?  Or put the link in the announcement email?  Or anything else that actually works!  I've had Norton Identity Safe Standalone version for many, many years and I have NEVER been able to get the live update to work reliably.

Re: Live Update doesn't install toolbar patch

What is the key to getting Live Update to run???  It doesn't do any good to click "Check for updates".  Sure you can click it and it MIGHT actually check and change the time checked BUT it won't actually INSTALL the stupid patch.  So how do you get the stupid thing?????????????????

I've attached a screen shot so you can see I've got version 2014.7.11.42. I know there's an update because your product announcement says a patch (Toolbar: 2014.7.12.35) has been released.  If you can put a link in the program for us to click to "supposedly" get the update, why can't you put a link on the website for us to just get the actual patch??

hi Naiveblueeyes

As you are using Windows 10 you may wish to have a look at the information in the thread linked below:

Re: Live Update doesn't install toolbar patch

Yes, I'm using Windows 10.  I turned off the fast start and restarted my computer.  Then I clicked check for updates and it did check but the product version still isn't changing. And every time I start Firefox it keeps asking me to install the update which I don't want to do until NISS has updated so my toolbar doesn't get lost.

I checked my Firefox add-ons and it shows that I have the Norton Identity Safe Toolbar 2014.7.12.35 yet the program on my desktop still shows 2014.7.11.42.  Even after it checks for updates and shows that it checked "less than a minute ago".  Does that mean if I install the Firefox update the toolbar would be compatible and I don't have to worry?  Or do I still have to wait until the desktop program has the 2014.7.12.35 before Firefox updates?

The last thing I want to do is lose it again.  I'm just now getting used to having it again after not having it on my PC for over a year and having to get everything from my phone and enter it manually.

Re: Live Update doesn't install toolbar patch

Hi naiveblueeyes,

I do not believe there is anything wrong with your system.

Per your screen shot, you are running the current version of Stand Alone Identity Safe (IDSS) the following is the correct information:

Norton Identity Safe Standalone [IDSS] - 2014.7.11.42  (as shown in your screen shot as the Product version)

Norton Toolbar: 2014.7.12.35 (listed under Tools > Add-ons in FF)

So you are ready to upgrade to FF 40.

<EDIT> Just to be on the safe side, you can Export your ID safe Data.  I would suggest you do it in both .dat and .csv format and save it to a safe location so that if anything goes wrong (it shouldn't), you have backup of your data.  The Export should be done a regular basis - just like backing up your system.

Re: Live Update doesn't install toolbar patch

Ok, thank you so much!  Apparently, I was freaking out for nothing LOL.  It seems to work fine. Although the desktop program and the toolbar still don't have matching version numbers which I can't understand how that's possible and it still work together.  But it's working and that's all that matters.  Thanks so much everyone for your help and patience!

Re: Live Update doesn't install toolbar patch

I've just started with Norton and find that half the add-ons won't work until I install the toolbar, but this won't install on Firefox- no reason given, it just says 'installation unsuccessful'.  Grateful for any advice.
