Major Update

Norton just released a major update and I had to shutdown my computer in order to install it.

So what was this major update?

I still don't see Identity Safe in the toolbar.

Re: Major Update

What Norton product are you using and what version?

Thanks.

Re: Major Update

NIS, 22.5.4.24

Also, why is this post not in the "Norton Toolbar/Norton Identity Safe" forum ???  I just posted it there.

Re: Major Update

It is posted in the "Norton Toolbar/Norton Identity Safe" forum.

I don't know about your update but I haven't received one, nor have I heard about one being released today, sorry.

If you check your Live Update History does it show you what the update was for?

Hello

There is usually a delay when a new  thread is created until it shows up in the Forum.

Thanks.

Re: Major Update

flopot, thanks for the comment about timing of posts on the forum. I got an email response from you and I had to search the forums to find my post in order to respond.  Anyway, that is why I asked.

I looked through the history for yesterday, the 12th, and there were alot of minor updates and one major update of 1.2 Mb (Web Protect def's, IPS def's & Antispam def's). It was the only interactive update, yet it says it did not require a reboot.

Is there any way to search for updates that require reboots?

Re: Major Update

It might have been an earlier update but when you ran Live Update you were prompted to reboot, so it may not of been those updates that required the reboot.

You would have to check each Live Update event logged for about that time.  The main updates requiring a reboot are Product Updates and Toolbar Updates.  Even those updates usually don't require a reboot on Win7 and higher.

... Which brings me to my next questions:

  • What is your Operating System?
  • Were you using v22.5.4.24 before the update?

Is this machine turned on most days?  Maybe there was an update released while your machine was off.

Thanks.

Re: Major Update

-Windows 7 Pro -Yes, always seem to be using v22.5.4.24 especially since the password vault no longer works. Recently, I've been accessing logins & passwords for websites that I haven't visited for quite some time. -Computer is always on. 24/7/365 This reboot was a surprise since I had been using it off & on from 9am and then suddenly at 6pm I notice Norton notifying me to turn off my computer.

Re: Major Update

What clue do you have that suggests "Major Update"....

maybe, restart was for remediation....

Yeah, that's what I'm starting to think now too.

 enot6g,

Can you check in Security History > Resolved Security risks?  Anything showing for around that time or earlier?

Re: Major Update

The last resolved security risk was on October 6th. The clue that I have is "the Norton icon was on my windows start button' Whenever that icon appears, norton either wants me to restart or shutdown my computer and this time it wanted to shutdown my computer. Can I request that a new search term be added to the next version of NIS? The search term would be 'Reboot Required' If we had this capability then this issue would have been resolved by now.

Re: Major Update

That isn't the Norton icon, it is a Windows Update icon.
