Microsoft Edge IS Extension

While I am happy that Norton has finally added an Identity Safe extension to Edge [Creators Update only], I find it a bit cumbersome and clunky to use. Looking forward to revisions & improvements to this product.

A few complaints:

-- Setting options are in dire need. Option to let the Vault stay open longer would be helpful.

-- Placement of extension's notifications needs improvement. As of now, the "pop-ups" often cover fields or information. A sleeker look would be nice.

-- Integrating wallet, etc. would be good.

That's a few ... overall, just make it a bit more seamless and less intrusive.

Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback!
I work with the Development teams on Identity Safe and we are looking forward to enhancing Edge and our other extensions over time.  Your comments help us hear what areas are most important to our customers.

One specific question - when you are asking for an option to let the vault stay open longer - are you saying longer than the current ~24h period where if you don't use IDSafe in Edge, vault gets closed for security?  Or something else?

For notifications, we will take your inputs into consideration - ultimately we have requested Edge to support notifications via Win10 native notifications, which they say they are considering for a future Edge release.

Re: Microsoft Edge IS Extension

Hi Matt ... I must be missing something ... My vault, while using Edge, stays open only until I close the browser. I would be happy with 24 hrs. Where is that setting? Thanks.

Re: Microsoft Edge IS Extension

How long have you left the vault open in Edge? Longer than 24 hours?

There is no setting, yet. That is what Matt was asking if you wanted to be able to control.

Re: Microsoft Edge IS Extension

As soon as I close the browser, I am logged out. Have to re-login every time I open Edge. Personally, I would like an option similar to the IE setting, but 24 hours would be good enough.

Re: Microsoft Edge IS Extension

OK understood, thanks for clarifying - that's a familiar request and we will evaluate it going forward.

Did you click on the link in the announcement? I just tried it and it takes me directly to the Norton extension. You cannot yet just click on the Extensions in the Edge browser, or search the store directly.

Does the Creators Update reset all privacy settings to defaults, the way the Anniversary Update did? One example was Fast Startup was re enabled with the AU.

Re: Microsoft Edge IS Extension

MS released it with a new Media Creation Tool on April 5 afternoon.

I used the Download Tool Now and downloaded the Media Creation Tool and use it to download and save the ISO as I have 3 systems to update. (just finished the 2nd)

This is the Release version for everyone.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

It took about 45min and working great.

I now have Build 15063.13.

During install it gives you the choice to change those settings.

I have hibernate turned off so Fast Startup is not available and my hibernate setting remained for old install.

Re: Microsoft Edge IS Extension

When you say is give the choice to change those settings, does that mean it did change the settings to what MS had as defaults. But it takes you to the settings to make changes again?

It is just that the Anniversary Update reset all security and info sharing settings to the MS defaults of tell us everything about you and your system? It was pretty much treated as a fresh OS install.

During the install process it will bring up a screen with the options and most are set ON by default but you can change them and then click Accept.

Re: Microsoft Edge IS Extension

My main system is running the new Creators Updated and looking good.

On Edge and Firefox I am using a Cloud Vault with the new extensions and working good. They look the same and need some work but are OK.

I still have a Local Vault that I run on IE11 and that is working good also but that probably won't last long if Norton ports their new extension to IE. I have tested IE11 with the same Cloud Vault and all is good.

All 3 browsers are working great with no lag or freezing like before.

Don't forget that version 22.9.1.14 was made with the Creator's Update in mind. Thanks for the good feedback.

Re: Microsoft Edge IS Extension

I think you mean 22.9.1.12 ?

IE 11 is really working good with Norton now.

Really quick and no hangs.

Now all I need is for IDSafe to work with Vivaldi.

It works but won't auto-fill any sites. It is using Norton Identity Safe 1.0.5 from Chrome Store with Norton Security Toolbar 2017.0.0.8 also from Chrome Store. I have tried Local and Cloud Vaults but they just won't fill.

I wish Norton would look at Vivaldi as it is almost there.

Hello PhoneMan

Yes, I did mean version 22.9.1.14. I remember asking one of the Admins and at that time, he said there aren't enough people using Vivaldi in the world to support it. Someone else said recently that Vivaldi stopped working and was blaming Norton for it. Don't remember which thread it was.

Thanks

Re: Microsoft Edge IS Extension

Hi, thank you for first version of Norton Identity Safe for Microsoft Edge browser. Here is my first experience:

- when I restart the Edge browser (without PC restart) I need to login to Identity Safe again (on IE I have to login only for the first time after PC restart)

- when I try to login to my e-mail account on www.email.cz I can see only first 5 stored logins without opportunity to scroll to the next logins (I have about 10 e-mail logins stored; on IE everything is OK)

I hope this issues will be solved in the next versions.

Once again - thank you for your work.

The vault closing when you close Edge is by design. The new Firefox extension works the same way. If you look at MJP's posts above, you will see that they are entertaining allowing more control over how long the vault stays open.

Not sure about the second issue. Maybe @PhoneMan can comment as he has already upgraded Win 10.

Re: Microsoft Edge IS Extension

I was pleased to load the Norton Identity Safe Extension for Microsoft Edge. I note the comments above re logout features. I have also found, however, that in the case of some websites login details (username/password) will not be filled in, even if I have re-entered them from within the Microsoft Edge browser. Hence at this stage, the extension is functioning unfavourably when compared with browsers such as Chrome and Internet Explorer.

Re: Microsoft Edge IS Extension

I would really like it if the option to keep me logged into Identity Safe for Edge like in Internet explorer, I only had to log in if I turned my computer off or I think 24hrs if I leave it on, also would like the 15min, 30min, 1hr, 2hr time out options also as I think they are useful for other peoples situations! Thanks

If you work for the development team, are you able to tell me when we are likely to get Family safety to work with Edge - windows 10 has been out for some time now, and Edge is far better and easier to use for kids than IE and Chrome , your competitors are already on the case with edge support and my subscription is up soon, I keep speaking to online chat over the last few weeks and nobody seems to be able to give me a definitive answer.

many thanks

Re: Microsoft Edge IS Extension

Hello

Norton just came out with I D Safe for Edge since Microsoft was holding up allowing Norton to use the necessary extension. This is the first edition of the Extension. I'm sure they are working on improving the Extension and features that can be added or fixed.

I'm another user like you are. I don't know, but perhaps Family might need another Extension. If it does, then probably Microsoft is holding up that Extension. I haven't heard anything about Family, but I can try  to find out from Norton.

Thanks.

Re: Microsoft Edge IS Extension

What my issue is with Edge, my Identity Safe shows to be logged in, but every time I go to a website that I have an existing Identity Safe Login I have to sign in again. It is a major hassle to signin each time I go to a different site.  That never happened on IE or Chrome.  This is too much of a hassle to login every single time I go to another website and never closing my browser.  I started using Norton Password Manager in the very early 1990's when I had to pay for it and honestly the first time I ever used it was better than it is now.  Also I don't see a way to back up my passwords either.

I am having trouble finding the exact location where you are at to see if I have the 1st option checked.  I looked under Edge extension Norton Identity Safe settings and don't see this option here.  I also Use Norton Security and under the settings for Identity Safe the attached picture is all I can find.

Can you give me step, by step instructions where to get to your screen shot?  Sorry to be trouble.

The settings Jim shows are for the Edge browser ID Safe extension. I do not have that yet, but your image shows the ID Safe opened from the Norton Toolbar. With the new extensions  there is no connection between the main ID Safe feature in your Norton security product, and the vault in the Edge or Chrome extension. That is probably why you say you are logged in, and then are asked to log in again to fill a login in Edge.

Re: Microsoft Edge IS Extension

Hey Matt,

Just wanted to throw in something here.  I'm not sure if you have used NIS on Chrome or not.  I've been using NIS on Chrome for a few years. Once I login in the morning, it stays logged in. Of course, if I restart my system or manually turn it off, it will stay on all day long.  Since I have been using NIS for Edge, I have to reenter the NIS password every single time I reopen the browser.  I'm being patient though because Norton always comes through. If it can't be done, it won't be because of Norton. I do hope it happens soon because I've been spoiled using NIS with Chrome. If I am not mistaken, the only reasons for having to log back in using NIS for Chrome is if you restart your computer (duh!) or click the Vault icon on the toolbar and select Close Vault.  I hope we can get that for Edge as well because it has become a pain. For now, I'm not logging into NIS on Edge. Because it took a while to get NIS for Edge, I just used the Edge password manager. So a lot of my passwords are in there anyway.  Once this login issue is fixed and can stay logged in all day, I will be turning off passwords in Edge and use NIS.

Anyway, I hope any of this helps or possibly you were already aware of the behavior of NIS with Chrome. If so, my apologies.

Getting closer, Norton Developers.

Re: Microsoft Edge IS Extension

.... or,

as PhoneMan mentioned "Check you options" and then provided a screen shot of removing the check mark from "Always require Vault password before autofilling a login or form" option. By the way, that screen can be accessed by clicking the three dots on the bottom of the Vault when you click on the NIS icon on the Edge toolbar and selecting Settings.

Geez, why didn't I think of that.  I guess I haven't been in the settings in the NIS for Chrome, I had to go look at the NIS options in Chrome as well and remembered a few things. I guess I'll leave this option off in NIS for Edge until I will know when this has been resolved and turn the feature back on.  Thanks for the tip, PhoneMan!
