New android Identity Safe App wiped out my vault data

I have Norton Vault installed on my PC and my iPad. I bought a new smartphone and downloaded the android Norton Identity Safe app for the LG G3, and in the setup,  I entered my norton password (not the vault password). Then I was asked to create a vault password. This surprised me as I already have a vault password. Nevertheless there was no other option, so I entered my existing vault password. I found myself with a brand new empty vault. Fearing the worst, I checked both my PC and iPad vaults. Several years of data GONE!

Can I retrieve my data?

Re: New android Identity Safe App wiped out my vault data

You may be in luck -

On your PC, look in your Documents folder for a sub-folder named "Norton Identity Safe Backups" in that folder you should find another folder (or more) with name(s) matching your Norton Account ID(s).  Within the folder(s) should be a series of past-dated .DAT files - these are the periodic automatic backup copies of your online vault which are made when/while you're using your PC.

Note however, that these .DAT backups will exist ONLY if you have enabled the "Auto Backup" feature of the IDSafe installed on your PC (under Settings).

If you're lucky and you find one or more of the .DAT files, you can use the Import function (also located under IDSafe Settings) to restore your online vault back to the content coinciding with the date of the restored .DAT file.

Note too that your issue may have been instigated due to some ongoing issues Norton presently is, and has been, having with a number of their Cloud anchored service "functionalities".  These problems have been going on for the past week or so...

Here's hoping that the .DATs are there for you!

Kind regards,
John

Re: New android Identity Safe App wiped out my vault data

Bless you! It worked almost perfectly.

I say "almost" because it looked a bit daunting at first because I have so many .dat files, and I was only able to select one at a time. So I clicked on the first, and settled down for a long afternoon, though hoping all the folder's contents would be loaded at the same time. And indeed they were, so all's well that ends well.

Thank you so much, John!

That's great news Judy -

I'm glad to hear that the data was there when you needed it the most!  (we solicited long and hard to get that feature added).

Thanks Flo!

Cheers!
John
