New Norton Forum

I participate in a lot of forums on the net and I have never experienced a worse performing forum than the new Norton forum. What was wrong with the old forum???

Hi, hok. You'll have to ask Tony Weiss that question.

It's disgraceful the way it performs. The old forum was great. Very fast and no "see your post one time not see it the next" type of thing,

hok,

>What was wrong with the old forum???

What follows is just my guess/opinion ... based on various replies to my asking similar questions since this new forum was rolled out:

Not sure there was anything really "wrong" with the old forum. The change may have been made because Symantec changed contracts.

The initial request for people to test the new forum came out in late August (around August 20 I think) and stated that a new forum was to be rolled out in a few months. Then, approximately 5 weeks after that request for testers, the new forum was rolled out.

Not sure what caused the testing window to shrink from months to 5 weeks. I have read posts that seem to suggest that there was some contractual issue that resulted in this new forum being rolled out before it was ready. My guess is that Symantec may have had a contract with a company to support/maintain the old forum, that contract was set to expire, and Symantec had decided not to renew the old contract but instead established a new contract (perhaps with some other company) to develop/maintain this new forum. When the old contract expired, this new forum was rolled out .... ready or not.

Again, the above is just my conjecture .... Symantec has refused to explain why the test window for this new forum was reduced to 5 weeks, and why a decision was made to roll out the new forum even though there were many known problems with it, and even though there was a major product release scheduled for a week after the new forum went live (which generated a lot of new traffic/load on the new forum ... which was already having problems).

Perhaps there are many extenuating circumstances that fully explain the decisions Symantec made ... but so far, Symantec has not had the courtesy of sharing that information with the customers most impacted by those circumstances and decisions.

Didn't see any reason to run two Threads from the same author on the same Topic posted to the wrong Forum.
Hope the dizzy spells have subsided...
