New Norton Toolbar and NVP versions???

I just checked my NTB and NVP versions and the NVP appears to have been updated. I don't see any post from Norton verifying this. NTB=2013.4.3.7and NVP=12.0.1.3-1 Are these the latest for Norton 20.4.0.40?

Re: New Norton Toolbar and NVP versions???

According to the following announcement, they are incorrect:

http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Toolbar-Norton-Identity/Firefox-24-and-Chrome-30-Support-for-Norton-Toolbar/m-p/1031439/highlight/true#M14265

But it appears the announcement may be incorrect.  I have the same NVP and NTB versions you have listed in my FF 24 on 20.4.0.40 Norton Security Suite - whcih the above post references.

I will try to get an answer from Norton on this - but once again - it is the weekend!

Re: New Norton Toolbar and NVP versions???

I've been trying to troubleshoot this since last night.  I too am running NIS 20.4.0.40 and have a new NVP 12.0.1.3-1.  Here's where things get interesting.  When I run the Get Support auto fix, it find a generic 'Installation' fix.  When it runs the fix, it brings back 12.0.0.380-1 in FF.  When I reboot my computer and check FF again, it's back to 12.0.1.3-1 again.  Run Get Support, the installation fix brings back 12.0.0.380-1 once again.  I can do this every time I reboot my computer.

I'm running FF 23.  It seems like Norton has released a new NVP, but it doesn't play nice with the Get Support check yet?  Right now I can control which version I run by running the installation fix.

Re: New Norton Toolbar and NVP versions???

Hi Brockton,

Thanks for that feedback.  I can verify that I can duplicate what you got for NVP  12.0.0.380-1 after running Get Support and it fixed the installation error it found.  I then rebooted the system and checked the NV version and it in fact had returned to 12.0.1.3-1.

Now here is the kicker, I got the same thing on NSS v 20.4.0.40 and also on NIS 21.0.1.3 running FF 24 on Win 7 SP1 64 bit systems.

I will report this to Norton as well.

Re: New Norton Toolbar and NVP versions???

I also ran Auto Fix, and it repaired an installation error. No other details. How do I know what was fixed ?

It seems that for the time being users are not allowed to know it...

Thanks for that link, Rainbow_2. It seems we're not alone, in wanting to know what's going on.....

Edit---I can also duplicate what Brockton and Yank have found with NVP.......

Re: New Norton Toolbar and NVP versions???

Hi All,

Norton has acknowledged receipt of our findings and ithas been padded to the appropriate team to pursue the duplication of it.  If I hear more I'll pass it on and hopefully Norton will jump in and address it also.

Yes, folks have been anxious ot find out exactly what Auto fix auto fixes!   It seems we have logs for everything else that we can look at.

Re: New Norton Toolbar and NVP versions???

Any new updates on this topic?

I have noticed that I recieved the new NVP update to 12.0.2.8-1 .  But if I run autofix, it kicks me back to 12.0.0.380-1 again til reboot.  If NVP is updating, I'm thinking the issue is more with the AutoFix on NIS and not NVP or FF.

Re: New Norton Toolbar and NVP versions???

Nothing new - but a new thread did pop up and it has also been reported to Norton.

Just in case everyone does not follow the link - it does not change the NVP version with Get support in Norton 21.1.0.018 products.  IMHO I feel it is something that was done to version 20.4.0.40 that is causing it - seems to have popped up when the update to prevent the FF 24 crash occurred - but I am not sure they happened at the same time.

Re: New Norton Toolbar and NVP versions???

Hi all,

We've released a new version of Norton Vulnerability Protection.

I've updated the Announcement with the latest version number.

This patch should fix the Get Support Auto fix which brings back the older version of NVP in Firefox [link]

Norton Vulnerability Protection :  12.0.3.2 - 1

Re: New Norton Toolbar and NVP versions???

Thanks Mohan (and Norton).

I can verify runing Get Support on Norton Security Suite 20.4.0.40 does not change the NVP to the previous version number any longer in FF 24.  I do have NVP 12.0.3.2-1

However, it does say that it is fixing an item in the installation each and everytime Get Support is run!

Restarting and running Get Support still shows one item in Installation fixed.

Does not do this on my NIS v 21.1.0.18.

Will start a new thread.
