New Windows 8.1 Laptop Wanting to Have Local Vault

Am aware that after V6 the local vault went away and the way to keep it with Windows 7 was to go back to V6, install the local vault and then update Norton to the latest version and everything worked well as I did that several times.  So for my new Laptop, downloaded V6, installed it and it would not open and had compatibility issues with my Win 8.1.  I assume I can install 8.1 then go back to V6 the way it worked before or am I stuck with the Cloud Vault.

Appreciate specific instructions as the Gurus provided in the past.

Thanks so much,

Dave

version 2012 is not compatible with W8/8.1
Sorry, on your W8 machine / new install ~ Cloud is only option.  Two steps back one forward no fly with new install / new machine.

Re: New Windows 8.1 Laptop Wanting to Have Local Vault

Was afraid that was the answer.  Oh well, one more quick question.  I have my current passwords backed up and was going to install them on my local vault.  I do have a cloud vault that I will log into once I install the latest 360.  Can I still import my current password list and since many are identical to what I have now, will the system automatically leave me with the most current password or will I have duplicates??

Just want to know how to bring in my current passwords as it has been several years since I used the cloud vault but, pretty sure the vault still exists and since I am using the third of three installs, will be on the same account.

Thanks for the solution.  Not happy but, happy with my new machine.

Um, never had this scenario.  Previous Cloud with creds > now looking to import backup creds from established Local>
Don't know if you will be prompted to choose A vs B.  If Local is up to date.  Export Cloud to safe place just in case.  Empty cloud - may be tedious - and import Local to clean Cloud.
Or, try as is - see what happens - and use alternative as fall back...
Others will chime in....

Re: New Windows 8.1 Laptop Wanting to Have Local Vault

Hi Dave,

Open your ID safe, go to the Import/Export Tab and select Import - you will se the following options -

I knew you'd ask anyway - so here it is:

Merge imported data with existing data - To

merge the imported vault with the existing vault.

If Identity Safe finds any duplicate entries, it lets

you decide whether you want to keep the

existing entry, or replace it with the imported

entry.

Replace existing data with imported data - To

replace the existing vault with the imported

vault.

Re: New Windows 8.1 Laptop Wanting to Have Local Vault

Thanks for the info, just finished importing my passwords and did the merge thinking they would give me a choice or delete duplicates but, no response as I imported and found duplicates almost across the board so imported to get rid of duplicates as my local vault was up to date and have a copy, if I need it of the old cloud vault.

Again no choice to keep or not keep duplicates and, my addresses stayed but, my local vault credit cards didn't so need to enter a couple of credit card numbers and am a happy camper other than not having a local vault but, hopefully the cloud will work and not go down when needed.

Thanks all

Sorry Dave about the dups, I just verified that the notes on Import for both V 21 and V 22 are identical - as I have copied them above.

As long as you are happy and BTW I have been using the Online Vault with NIS 21.6.0.32 since bginning of Sept with no problems - knock on wood.  I may try to regain the Local as well before I do the upgrade to NSBU on win 7.

Can't be sure about dups as I have multiple logins for many of my sites so there are dups but, can't be sure if they are from the old cloud vault or not.  One of these days will have to edit my vault to only keep dups I need.

By the way, never was able to click the Norton links for multiple passwords or even the log in or out after a few minutes so hope this brand new computer gets rid that time out issue since it appears Norton is NEVER going to fix it.  We'll see later today if I can still click the down arrows.  Hoping so!!!!!

Dave, I wait with baited breath on the results with the new system - we (and others) put a lot of time into that topic!

Re: New Windows 8.1 Laptop Wanting to Have Local Vault

Well right now have no report but, for sure I will be back with the rest of the story.  And, can't get into my online Vault as I believe the servers are awfully slow in that area.  Looked for the reason and was told an install issue so downloaded the remove and install program and so far in about 15 minutes has downloaded 3% so think my install is OK and will wait and see when the servers come up so I can log in and get my damn cloud vault.

Checked a website that tracks up and downtime for websites and Norton is sloooooooooooow there so must be patient I guess.

Thanks Yank and others for trying and hope the money was well sent.  So far the new computer is doing fine just a lot of installs and moving of files from the old computer to the new.

Thanks again and may be tomorrow before I have the rest of the story!!!!
