NIS and Identity safe

HI,

As a 20+ year Nortons user, this one has perplexed me....hoping someone can provide some advise.

I have disabled Nortons Identity safe in the NIS main screen (under identity), as I use another password manager (Lastpass), havent these things come on in leaps and bounds in the last 10 years!?... I did this as Nortons Identity safe appears to override, duplicate on various screens (in some cases disabling the input field)!

Despite disabling it this way, the Nortons Identity safe prompts still appear (even the valueless display that appears when the round/grey icon is clicked.

How can I remove each instance of these 'grey ghosts'?

thanks

Re: NIS and Identity safe

Hi lethal,

Disabling Identity Safe as you have done, should also show it disabled under Settings > Quick Control and also shown as OFFV under Settings > Identity Protection > Identity Safe.  It should also close your Vault.

I'm not following the "round/gray Icon" appearance - can you provide a screen shot of that?

Hopefully someone else may understand what you are seeing better than I have.

Re: NIS and Identity safe

HI Yank,

Thanks for the response.

I attach screenshots, which show

- a website with input username and password at top (with grey ghosts)

- clicking on the grey ghosts generate Identity safe display (p2)

- my current NIS status, showing identity safe off

- verification under 'settings'

yet it continues...weird.

Appreciate any further advises or input.

regards

Lethal

Re: NIS and Identity safe

Got me very curious now after seeing the screen shots -please go to Programs and Features and see if there is by chance a separate entry for Norton Identity Safe in addition to an entry for your NIS installation . If you have the separate Norton Identity Safe entry - uninstall it and see if that clears things up.

Further to that did you at any time uninstall your NIS and opt to keep your Identity Safe for FREE?  If you have the separate entry above - this is where it came from.  We have seen this cause weird things in the past - not saying that is your situation, but a possibility

Re: NIS and Identity safe

What the user is seeing is the FF ID Safe extension. This is not disabled from the main NIS program. You have to go into FF Add Ons and disable the FF ID Safe extension. The two are not connected any more.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: NIS and Identity safe

Hi Yank,

No never uninstalled and kept I.S...however have recently uninstalled NIS and trialling Nortons Security with Backup.

May go back to the full licence for NIS after trial.

Where do I find thew 'add-ons' in the NIS/NS panel, and what does FF stand for?

Looking forward to your response.

The add ons are for Firefox, not NIS.

As floplot noted, FF stands for Firefox. You click on the 3 bars at the right of the address bar to access the Firefox Add Ons. from there disable the ID Safe extension if you want to disable the ID Safe in Firefox.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: NIS and Identity safe

Hi Guys,

There is no mention of 'ID Safe' or nortons in the firefox add-ons or plug ins...are your sure (pereweb) that that is the right spot?

What about the other browsers I use....chrome and occassionally edge/ie?

really appreciate your guidance (all)

Hi Lethal,

In addition to what Peterweb stated (The Norton ID Safe is not disabled in FF when it is disabled in the Norton GUI) is a unique situation at present.  When using Chrome or IE, the turning off of ID Safe in the Norton GUI will close your Vault.    At present Microsoft does not permit extensions to be used with Edge, thus no Norton Toolbar (and ID Safe) compatibility with Edge.
