NIS toolbar & Firefox 26

I just installed Firefox 26. The NIS toolbar is gone. I saw that the fix was in Live Update. I ran that several times and still it doesn't show..

Hi,

Have you rebooted? It may not always be necessary to do so but it never hurts.

Keep us posted

Re: NIS toolbar & Firefox 26

Have you clicked the orange Firefox button and gone to Add-ons > Extensions and checked whether you can enable Norton Toolbar and Norton Vulnerability Protection?

You haven't told us which Norton product you are using, nor which version.  I can only guess from the subject that you have NIS.  Could you click Support > About and tell us the version?

Thanks.

Re: NIS toolbar & Firefox 26

OK  -  This has worked in the past.

Please export a copy of your Identity Safe data before you do anything.

  • Completely uninstall Firefox
  • Download and install a new copy of your preferred version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
  • Download a fresh copy of NIS from www.norton.com/latestnis and SAVE it.
  • Uninstall NIS from Windows Control Panel choosing the option that you will be installing another Norton product.  It will save your settings, restart.  You DO NOT need to run the Norton removal Tool.
  • Install the new copy of NIS
  • Run Live Update, restarting where required, until you see a message "No updates found".

You should now be able to enable the toolbar now.

Please let us know how you get on.

Edit : Thanks to Guru yank for the steps.

Re: NIS toolbar & Firefox 26

I see you've been through this before.

It mainly happens if Firefox is updated to the new version before the Toolbar patch is installed.

Can I suggest you change the following setting in Firefox to Check for updates, but let me choose when to install them?

You could keep a check on patch releases by subscribing to announcements here  -  http://community.norton.com/t5/Product-Update-Announcements/bg-p/Product_Announcements/label-name/firefox  -  then when you receive an email about a patch you can run Live Update, restarting if required, before updating Firefox.

If you do this you shouldn't have to jump through these hoops again.

Cheers!
