The Norton Add-On for Firefox patch did not successfully applied re-bootlessly. It claims that "drivers cannot be shut down." I had to restart the PC.
What operating system and service pack are you using?
The rebootless patching is only available on Win 7 & 8.
Windows 7 SP1 x64
FWIW, I am also on Win 7 Sp1 x64 running NIS 18.104.22.168. I received the FF add-on Patch, selected Apply Now and was asked to close FF and IE which I di, the patch installed and Explore too me back to the Advanced Page of NIS (which I have NIs open on). No reboot required. Settings > Computer > Updates > Apply Updates only on Reboot set to OFF.
In the words of Norton "there are drivers that cannot be stopped. Please reboot the PC to complete the patch" (or something like that). And "apply updates only on reboot" is off (I believe if I set it on, it wouldn't have offered patchless reboot). On my other PC, the patch went smoothly
If I remember correctly, I was asked to shut down FF and IE and then after that the patch continued to run and something about "shutting down other activites" (?) - perhpas yu had something else running that Norton's patch method could not shut down??

Hmmm.... I updated soon after Windows startup. Perhaps there are some drivers that are "starting up." I don't know. If anybody's intersted, I'm using a Dell Studio 1555. All drivers up to date (Intel from the Intel website and AMD Radeon from the AMD website). I have AMD Radeon HD 4560 graphic card.
Ihaven't received the patch on my Norton Security Suite (N 360 clone from Comcast), nor NIS 2012 on laptop - so I'll check them also (although I believe NIS 2012 will need a reboot as normal procedure).
The update went smoothly for the other Windows 7 PC though :/
Also, it was OK in the past.
