Re: Norton Backup Won't Run - "Computer Not Online"

This happened to me once. I added a Computer Description to My Computer Properties and was listed as the Computer Name for that point. Had to reinstall add computer and delete the other that was by the Computer Name not the Description Name. Funny Bug.

Re: Norton Backup Won't Run - "Computer Not Online"

Hello aimpro,

This is a case where support needs to check things out by performing a remote session. Please go to www.norton.com/chat to have them assist you. When it goes offline it means the client can't communicate with the web back end. It can be going offline for a variety of reasons with the most common being its getting blocked in some manner.

You can try going to the Add Computer screen, re-download the client and install over your existing installation. That will result in either refreshing the connection or creating another Computer of the same name. If it creates a second instance it means the configuration files were damaged or missing from the prior installation.

If it is the second scenario the best thing to do is re-configure it, let it run a new backup and then remove the other instance. Only take the removal step if you are certain you have a solid backup on the new instance and don't need the data.

I do not advise manually uninstalling the software before you try what is suggested first since that will definitely break the communications.
