Norton Firewall issues with Windows 10 and latest update and patch

I am running Windows 10 with Norton Security 22.5.2.15,  I get a message in the bottom right after restarting my computer that Norton Firewall is off.  The alert stays on for approximately 30 seconds.  I became aware of this after downloading the latest updates and patch.  I have used Norton's removal and reinstall tool and ran update again.  The same issue persists.

Re: Norton Firewall issues with Windows 10 and latest update and patch

hi Bill

Once this happens have you checked to make sure Norton is working?

I initially had the "slider" alert from Windows on all of the devices upgraded to Windows 10. It appeared to be a temporary glitch whilst the system was settling down, the alerts stopped after a day or two.

So long as Norton Firewall is working, you can check in the Norton History of any activity or lack thereof, perhaps you should monitor it for a day or two, in my experience there are a number of small matters which seem to settle down quite quickly.

Re: Norton Firewall issues with Windows 10 and latest update and patch

Thanks for your response Michael.  I don't know what "Settles Down" means in the software world.  I wasted a lot of time on this issue yesterday, uninstalling and reinstalling Norton Security and doing numerous restarts to test.  I originally also had a message that Norton Virus Protection was not running either.  That went away by just toggling it off and on.  This morning first thing I downloaded 5 more updates and after rebooting the issue seems to have disappeared.  Software doesn't just fix itself.  I think there was a bug that got resolved with the updates.  I will be testing it out again tomorrow.

Re: Norton Firewall issues with Windows 10 and latest update and patch

hi Bill

Thanks for coming back to let us know the problem has stopped.

When I first installed Windows 10 there were a small number of niggling problems all of which seemed on checking to be false notifications, the firewall problem you also had was one of them.

I had checked to see that all was working with Norton which it was a couple start up's later the notifications stopped.

There may have been some relationship to one of the three updates already issued for Windows 10 by Microsoft, Windows 10 wasn't really ready for release in August it should have been in the Autumn, it still has some rough edges.

Hello

It still has a lot of rough edges with Edge my son has informed me. I'm not on Windows 10 yet.

Thanks.

I am still under the impression that Norton does not function with Edge.  I am still using Internet Explorer.  At least Windows 10 gives you that option.  Hopefully some one will announce when Norton and Edge are compatible.  Overall the transition to Windows 10 has been fairly painless for me.

Re: Norton Firewall issues with Windows 10 and latest update and patch

hi Bill06277

I think we will have to wait for Microsoft to sort out Edge before anything is forthcoming from other software Companies, Edge is very new and not complete. I have read Microsoft gave few details to developers and other software Companies before it's introduction.
