Hello, I just notice that my Norton Security size almost 5 GB... Wow! thats a lot of space for an antivirus suite... can anyone tell me is it normal thing or its just my installation?
If you look further into the Norton Security folder, can you tell us which folders use the largest amount of space?
What version of Norton Security are you using? From the main Norton screen, click on Help - About.
Have you run LiveUpdate manually a few times, restarting as necessary, until no updates are available?
Also, Restarting your computer could help do some cleanup of old files. If you use Windows 8/8.1 or 10, there can be an issue with the Fast Start feature.. See more information here.
I'm currently using the newest version of NS 22.214.171.124 and Windows 10 and the installation is on the SSD.
Well, I checked this out and it looks like folder with definitions take this enormous space which is quite strange for me since Norton Security is desingned to be half cloud product and when I run manually LiveUpdate (few times per week) it always downloads a few megabytes or even kilobytes of definitions except of big patches once for a while that takes more space around ~50 MB. So, it looks like these definitions after being downloaded transforms somehow into a larger files and take a lot of space.
And what about other users, please share with us how much your Norton weights?
And within the Definitions folder, which one is taking up the most space? There have been some users reporting that older definitions are not getting cleaned up.Just left taking up space.
And did you do the Liveupdate again and restart the computer as I suggested?
The Zombies stopped accumulating with the Zero dot 76 release. In that release the newest Zombies went away after a COLD START Re-BOOT. When dot 76 was patched the Pre-patch-legacy Zombies remain until complete uninstall and fresh re-install. Which loses Settings and History.
I did a fresh install with dot 76, now I have One dot 32, The Zombies bloated about 475mb to almost a gig. The fresh install had different sub-folder structure and is higher-mid 500 MB but no Zombies.
My post August 22, 2016, 2 days previous, FOUND:
No more zombies!
Well, it turns out that I had a lot of old definitions on that folder from May to current August so I found the other topic you mentioned and some user suggest to just remove the old folders. So I went ahead and disabled Norton Tamper Protection and removed all folders with definitions from May, June and July and leave only all folders with August, so now my Norton size ~1 GiB and it seems to be works just fine, I ran few scans and LiveUpdate several times. But the question is why Norton automatically didn't remove old junkie folders?
You should do a little more cleaning and just leave one Def folder in each category except IPSDef which should have 2. After that LU should keep it cleaned up. Also VirusDefs should be empty.
Done! Thanks Jim for your tips after this my Norton gets around ~500 MB space and I believe now it's the same size as clean installation.
Thanks a lot for help!
I hope that an$wer$ that question.
The surviving Zombie folder on someone's old while they were in school system or a USB stick back-up will show up for auction on E-Craig-Ali in the future after those buy-out-mergers a long-long time in the future, you know-throw a dart at a wall calendar.
