Norton Identity Safe

Is the free version the same as the on in NIS?  In not what are the differences? Can I export the NIS version to this version?

Re: Norton Identity Safe

Hi,

The Toolbar part of NIS alone is now available to you as a freeware under the name "Norton Identity Safe". And you can export the identity safe data from your NIS and import here without any problems.

Below are the features in the free product:

1. Identity safe - cloud storage of your logins and cards

2. Safeweb - protecting you against malicious sites by providing site safety icons for search engines, blocking you and alerting when you browse to malicious URLs

3. Antiphising - Protecting you from Phishing and Fraudulent URLs

4.Share - This a new feature which will be on the toolbar and it will help you in sharing any URLs you browse and you can share them on your facebook wall directly or you can share it through twitter, Gmail, yahoo mail, hot mail or linkedIn

Adding to this, you can also access your vault where ever you go since its being stored in cloud and you just need to access the identity safe portal for accessing your logins. And from security perspective, your data is very much safe and protected by two levels of authentication.

Re: Norton Identity Safe

So if I install this do I need to shut off Identity Safe in NIS.   Will this stand alone Identity Safe product ultimately replace the embedded Identity Safe in your applications?  Also it appears this product needs frequent updated because of browser updates such as Firebox.  Will Symantec make these frequent updates to this free product?

Re: Norton Identity Safe

Hi,

You cannot have both NIS and Norton Identity safe standlaone product installed simultaneously on your machine. Reason being, Norton Identity Safe freeware is already a part of NIS and it has advance features compared to the freeware product. This standalone product will be of use when there is no NIS/N360 installed on the machine and you want to use the idenitty safe functionality. Since the product is just released based on the reviews and feedbacks from the user, Symantec will decide about the product updates, mostly it could be a kind of postive decision when it comes to adding Firefox support

Re: Norton Identity Safe

Hi prasanna_a,

Thank you for the clarification. I was very confused when reading about the Norton Identity safe being it has the same name as NIS Identity Safe. At first I didn't see what the difference was either.

Just to be clear, if I were to uninstall NIS 2012, which I am not going to do, and use some other security product, then I could use this free version of Norton Identity safe as my password manager, with the security that the present Identity Safe has.

Hope I got that right. Thanks again for your clarification.

Re: Norton Identity Safe

In your announcment for this product it would be useful if you stated these facts since the announcment is very confusing as to when it should be used.

Thanks very much. I was almost thinking of installing Norton Identity safe before the clarification. I don't have a password manager, I just use NIS Identity Safe as my password manager. It's the most secure.

Hi,

Just so you know what would happen had you tried to install the new product on a system which already has a Norton product with identity safe included - the install fails telling you that your already have identity safe installed.

Nice programming Norton.
