Norton Identity Safe add-on "installation unsuccessful"

I've just started with Norton and find that half the add-ons won't work until I install the toolbar, but this won't install on Firefox- no reason given, it just says 'installation unsuccessful'.  Grateful for any advice.

Which add ons are you saying won't work? Or are you referring to features not working?

What security software did you have before Norton? Did you fully remove it with the removal utility for that software?

Re: Norton Identity Safe add-on "installation unsuccessful"

Thanks, it was features that wouldn't work. Since then I've shut the machine off and on and the Norton toolbar appeared, so I've got access to those features now.

Good question about my previous antivirus, which was Kaspersky and, no, it wouldn't completely remove - the removal utility jammed mid-task and I notice there are several files left on the system which I can't manually remove.  I was wondering whether to do this at the command prompt, what do you think?

Re: Norton Identity Safe add-on "installation unsuccessful"

Hello Ed

I would try that Kaspersky removal tool again and see if it completes it's job. Restart your computer after it is done. You should then do a refresh install of your Norton product. You can use the Norton Remove & Reinstall Tool

www.norton.com/nrnr

Please remember to run manual Live Updates, restarting as necessary and running Live Update until it says No More Updates Available. I would then restart again, at least 1 more time.

If you are running Windows 8.1/10, I would suggest turning off Fast Startup.

Thanks.

Re: Norton Identity Safe add-on "installation unsuccessful"

Thanks, that's helpful.  Followed your advice on LiveUpdate and on uninstalling Kaspersky but the usual uninstaller on 'settings' has no effect, says This action is only valid for products that are currently installed. Meanwhile Kaspersky and Kaspersky Pure both appear on the computer's apps list and there are files on the computer which I can't delete in Windows.  Of course I can just leave them....        Thanks for advice

Please see if this site helps you to remove the rest of Kaspersky.

Thanks.

If Windows Control Panel removal is what you are referring to, you need to try the removal tool floplot links to. Windows removal is not enough.
