Norton Identity Safe not working

The Norton Identity Safe and other options are all enabled on my computer  within Chrome and I.E.  BUT for some reason it haphazardly refuses to display on the screen. I open the extensions and it says it is enabled but still does not appear on the top of the screen. I have suffered this for quite a while and it is really becoming a time problem for me. I am reverting to pen and paper which we are all told is NOT the thing to do. It seems that some websites will trigger 'Vault closed' to display but others do not.

I am also finding, particularly with one website, that it will display 'Norton is logging you in' and , goes through the motions but then doesn't log me in. Very frustrating. I am using Windows 10.

Any ideas how to get over this?

Re: Norton Identity Safe not working

Hi su mac,

I am not an avid Chrome user (almost never use it), but for IE, please click on View > Toolbars on the menu Bar and see if there is a check mark by Norton Tool Bar.  There may be a similar setting in Chrome.

And as you have Win 10, be sure you have restarted your computer. Not just a Shut Down and reboot, as that does not give a complete restart needed to update operating system files.

Re: Norton Identity Safe not working

I have been having problems with Norton ID safe since BEFORE the start of the new year...and I am NOT a newbie.  In the original posters (OP for future references) comment when they said:

"I open the extensions and it says it is enabled but still does not appear on the top of the screen." ....

They are referring to what you said to do in your response...they're looking to see that there is a check mark by Norton Toolbar.  In Chrome, one looks for the check mark in Extensions.

There are several issues with Norton ID and they have been brought up for well over a year!!!  When will they get it right?!  We're all fed up with it!!  They don't even have the instructions correct on this website about how to close the ID Safe....unless they corrected it since I first checked it long ago.  When I was trying to find out how to do it & checked website, it said that the slide bar (or whatever they called it) is on the bottom left.  It's on the bottom right.  Also, mine has NEVER slid sideways when I do it & it has to be done REPEATEDLY before it actually closes the safe.

I believe the OP was referring to the online cloud safe because he said it "still doesn't appear on the top of the screen"

However, the local ID Safe also doesn't work anymore.  It doesn't fill in the login info.  Norton is probably losing customers over this issue.  Don't they even care?  What gives? Of course, since the attachments allowed here don't include anything which would allow people to send a video recorded by their cell & then uploaded to their computer, there's no way to show what our experience has been.  Do they ever plan to allow video clips to be sent?

To view the Norton Toolbar in Firefox and IE, there are two steps to check. One is to check the extension is installed. The other is to see that the browser is set up to display the Norton Toolbar. The second is what Yank was referring to in the post above.

I do no use Chrome, so I only ask this as a diagnostic step....Is there a View item in the menu bar for Chrome?

Re: Norton Identity Safe not working

Peterweb:  I wanted to attach screenshots of the steps to get into Chrome's extensions, but they don't allow jpg files.  So, I will just describe it.  In Chrome, it's called Settings, not View.  To get to Settings, at top right, click on the 3 vertical dots.  That is the Menu symbol.  In drop down box, choose Settings.  That opens a screen where Extensions is listed to far left.  In Extensions, where the keyhole icon for ID Safe is listed, it shows the version # & across from it is a box you can check.  When checked, it says: Enabled and, of course, Disabled when unchecked.  To the right of that is a trash can icon for deleting the extension.  So, as long as a person keeps the version updated, & the box is checked, it should work.

One thing I've always thought was odd is this:  On the main browser window where the keyhole icon is shown, mine is always greyed out....even when it's actually functioning correctly.  Is yours like that as well?

FYI:  There have been issues with the ID Safe for years now.  It seems like they never bothered to do anything toward addressing people's comments here.  If you do a Search on this website, or a net search, you will see that by looking at the dates people posted.  It's so unprofessional.  I wouldn't even be using Norton if it weren't for the fact that it comes free with Triple Play for Comcast....which a family member pays for me as a gift.  I'm currently unemployed but, when I get a job, I'm buying a different virus protection.

As I noted, I do not use Chrome, but on Firefox, the icon is now grey. It does not indicate that the feature is not working, that is just the colour Norton chose for the icon.
