Norton Identity Safe - support of local vault in Firefox 49 and up

Hi,

this post concerns the support of the local vault in Norton Identity Safe (NIS) for Firefox 49 and up (the new extension that has just been published). (OS info: Win10 and newest Norton Premier version with multiuser subscription).

I just had contact with a Norton support agent and he suggested to write this post.

The information I received from Norton Support is that the local vault won't be supported anymore in the new version of NIS, from today's perspective also not anymore in future Norton products (2017 and up).

I personally want to keep my local vault and do not wish to migrate to the online vault. As a loyal customer with many subscriptions for a decade I see myself forced to move towards one of the competitors (unless Norton can offer support for the local vault in the NIS add on in FF49/Chrome/...). Moreover, I think that this behaviour by Norton is forcing people who are currently using NIS, to use the online vault, regardless if they wish to use it or not (since local is not supported any more, hence no other option available).

I would be happy about any solutions or outlooks for support of the local vault.

Unless provided, I see myself sadly forced to the step of abandoning Norton.

Best regards,

BM

Sorry to see you go. But personally, I use Norton to protect my devices from malware. The ID Safe was a nice add on, but not the be all and end all for my choice of Norton for my protection. You can still use Norton and try another password manager.

As the agent suggested there will probably be no support for local vaults in any new Norton code. For a number of years now, there has been no way to create a local vault with a fresh install of a Norton product. All pleas to return this function have fallen on deaf ears.

FWIW    I support the use of local vaults. I have maintained my local vaults over the last couple of years using a work around posted elsewhere in the forums.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Adding respectfully, how does abandoning Norton satisfy "want to keep my local vault".
Let us know if you find Norton alternative, offering local vault.
Caveat: I migrated away from Norton Identity Safe several years back in favor of free local managers KeePass and Enpass.
Please consider setting up alternate passwords manager, just in case.

no i didn't have toolbar enabled.   i enabled toolbar(2015.7.1.12) and tried to open again. same result. toolbar version #  looks like an old version.  since i rarely use id safe anymore, i forgot its part of the toolbar(if local vault is going to work) i'm guessing the toolbar needs updating?  thanks

bjm,    i rebooted several times, refreshed chrome several times. finally realized the norton toolbar was not showing up.  i've had norton toolbar disabled in firefox for so long and only use it for 15 minutes once a month in ie11. i'm old, rusty, and forgetful. anyway, i gave up and shutdown computer for the night. when i booted up today, the toolbar was there and vault was working. thanks for your help

Re: Norton Identity Safe - support of local vault in Firefox 49 and up

I personally would also like to keep my vault local too, but have an option to sync it with an online vault (for my iPhone and iPad identity safe).  Frankly having an online vault as the only option isn't useful because if you don't have access to the internet, having your passwords stored only online isn't very helpful. I personally have several secured files and programs on my computer that I can't always remember their passwords, or even my Norton account password.  And frankly when my vault was online my login attempts always timed out an I could never log in. I had to roll back to NIS12 so I could keep the local vault.

It's right up there with Apple doing away with the headphone plug on the new iPhone 7.  A friend was all hyped up on his new iPhone 7 until he realized on a recent business trip that he couldn't listen to music on the plane because his headphones wouldn't work because Bluetooth is turned off in airplane mode and he didn't have the adapter.
