I upgraded to 42 before and the patch was not ready yet. Read somewhere in Norton the last of October a major rework was being done and should be ready to work with 42.0.

I rolled back to a earlier version to get the toolbar back. Did you try live update a couple times? I know in the past there was one that had to run live update like 3 times to get it all compatible to work

I went online live chat with Norton just now and here is what they said

Norton is not yet compatible with Firefox version 42. Since Firefox made big changes, we had to rebuild the entire Norton Toolbar from ground up, like designing a complete new product, and doing this the most secure way is our top priority and that’s why we are working hard to ensure that the toolbar works securely and same way as before

Big revamp or not  the money rolls in  from the millions of norton users  . My chrome and internet explorer   identity vault and toolbar works ok  finally  but firefox no toolbar   Grrrrrrrr !

Surely to hell better communications between firefox and norton to minimize  these ballsups would be a help.

Most of all Everyone is looking here there and everywhere for answers  so why can't Norton simply communicate and keep us informed by email news  for example. Better customer knowledge and understanding then .I'm not  a computer expert  but there must be a few milllion like me  having to  troll the sites for  up to date info .

We all hope as you can imagine re-built Toolbar/Identity Safe will prove stable.
As to why can't Norton simply communicate.  Lets all ask Norton via Feedback.

One observe is users get spooked by Norton emails.
With regular emails would users become less spooked or become annoyed.
I'd like to have daily, weekly, monthly opt in email news.

Norton could add a scroller message at top of the program to add a static message on do not update yet or other important info so users don't have to roll back to earlier versions of firefox. Maybe a scroller on the live update or just the program itself

I sure do agree. I made the mistake to update then find out I had to roll back to earlier firefox. In the meantime we are at risk of virus in older versions of firefox while Norton crawls to update to firefox changes. Add up millions of users and average $70 a year, funds should be there to speed up this to work with FF before we get a virus or malware

My Norton Toolbar is there, with FF 42, but Still NO Identity Safe working. I can click on the three gray dots to get to Configure ID Safe, then close the config to get to find login Id's and Pw's. Whe I go to FF Tools, then Add-ons, Identity Safe Still Shows it has NOT been "verified for use in Firefox.". How much longer will it take before this Verification happens?

Should I roll back to version 40 till this happens???????

My two cents.  Stay with 42.

Re: Norton identity Safe toolbar for Firefox 42. isn't working.

I like easy, so I stay with 40 so the safe is there which is all I care about with the toolbar. I won't upgrade to 42 until I know safe will be on the bar and work, guess a little wait longer won't be that bad

From the Norton feedback page.....

Your feedback is valuable in helping us build better products.

Why am I thinking this is total BS?

Re: Norton identity Safe toolbar for Firefox 42. isn't working.

It would be NICE if Mozilla did NOT have Firefox Scheduled for New Updates every couple of weeks; especially ones that Forced Most 3rd Party Apps to have to update THEIR programs, to keep things working..

Of course, if Symantec/Norton had NOT RELEASED their Identity Safe update BEFORE it was fully working, it would have Helped..

Would a Car Manufacturer release, for immediate sale (Direct off the assembly line), a car that had only the front (or back) wheels attached??? And then, you would find out you would have to call for Tow service to get the car home, AND you might have a week or two before you could bring the car Back again, to have it completed.

There SHOULD BE Some type of arrangement between Mozilla/Firefox and 3rd party app developers, to get their programs "Verified for use" BEFORE the program updates are released!!

I STILL do NOT know WHY Mozilla thinks that they HAVE TO have what seems to be SCHEDULED updates, almost every couple of weeks. Keep your software RUNNING AND USEABLE! If changes have to be made to it every couple of weeks (and then the Domino effect to 3rd party apps), are you Really going to be able to keep Problems from coming up after Each Change????

What should Firefox do finding a security issue.  Not patch...?
Maybe you should run Firefox ESR
My two cents.  I want frequent updates.  Programs are not perfect.  Updates show they're trying.
Norton aim is to re-build Firefox Toolbar more in-line with Chrome Toolbar.
So, that each FF update may not require Toolbar update.

Re: Norton identity Safe toolbar for Firefox 42. isn't working.

Maybe NOT "frequent" updates.. Updates just to say "we have current updates" is wasteful. If there is a security issue, Sure Fix the issue. If there are So Many updates that the Fixes don't close the issue (because the program code is DIFFERENT now; BESIDES the security fixes), and maybe NEW issues have been created Because of the other changes...... Might not have been Every FF update that required Toolbar update, but, Trying Very Hard to remember Which one DIDN'T.  (;->   Had to roll-back to a previous version (of Firefox)  a couple of times.

Especially when you have Add-ons trying to keep up with the changes... AND when the fixes doesn't JUST close the security issue, BUT ALSO cause 3rd party apps to have to RE-DO their programs AND Verifies; you have people being left with Partial functionality. Example: I can Still Use Firefox now, but, if I want to go to a site, and I do NOT remember my Login, I have to click on the three dots ..... Wait for the ID Safe window to come up WITH Configuration options..... Close the Configuration options.. Wait.. Wait.... Type in the name of the site... Wait ... Wait.. Wait. Search for the Site. Click on it. Wait... Wait... Wait... Unhide the password.. Switch to the Site window.. Type in the information to sign-in.

If Id Safe was working, I would just Go To the Site and wait a second or two, on the Login page. Click Sign-in, when Id and Pw fill-in. And I'm THERE.

What is Firefox ESR????

Any idea WHEN the Verify for Firefox use will be done? Is that the Only thing that is left?? I have been doing MANY Manual Liveupdates. Did Not see ANY more for ID Safe.

Re: Norton identity Safe toolbar for Firefox 42. isn't working.

Firefox ESR receives security patches, no tweaks.
Mozilla offers an Extended Support Release (ESR) based on an official release of Firefox for desktop for use by organizations including schools, universities, businesses and others who need extended support for mass deployments. You can read more about the plan here.
Signature verification is in progress.  FF42 allows not verified.  FF43 will have work around and FF44 will block.  By my last info. So, we have time.   And FF may change signature requirement schedule.

Hello

From a Non-Firefox user, how does Mozilla know so far in advance that they will have security issues that require a new browser or extensions?

Thanks.

Until Google started pumping out regular releases of Chrome, Mozilla was quite happy to release a new version when warranted, not just to keep up with Google................

For now you can use roboform to do all auto logons works great. you can go to setting and put it like you want to do it like Norton did for now in till toolbar it fixed. PS. it is a trial for 30 days just go to google and type in roboform.

Re: Norton identity Safe toolbar for Firefox 42. isn't working.

Mais qui est en retard dans cette affaire ? Puisque Identity Safe fonctionne avec IE et Chrome, c'est FF ? Ou FF est-il en avance sur les 2 autres et Norton en retard ?

Vivement que cela fonctionne avec FF.

Re: Norton identity Safe toolbar for Firefox 42. isn't working.

Hello

The Identity Safe will work well when both Phase 1 and Phase 2 are completed. I know that isn't the answer you want to hear, but unfortunately that seems to be the way it is. Mozilla's old method is very deeply rooted in the Norton Toolbar for Firefox. Due to the extremely deep interaction with Mozilla, it resulted in Symantec having to completely rebuild  the Toolbar in question. The best way of doing this is to divide it up into 2 phases. Phase 1 was already released to every one. Symantec did announce in advance that it would have limited functionality. That limited functionality I think, is going to remain until parts of Phase 2 are released to the public which includes all the Norton customers. When each part of Phase 2 gets released, it usually starts off being given out to the English language customers first. If there is bad telemetry, the part can be called back until it is fixed. The full functionality of phase 1 will be back completely most likely when all the parts of the Toolbar are put back together again.

This is meant for all the posters in the Forum who are posting about the Norton Toolbar for Firefox. Most of it is my opinion also.

Thanks.

Re: Norton identity Safe toolbar for Firefox 42. isn't working.

Don't think I saw ANY announcements of "limited functionality". All I saw was, that my LiveUpdate had NIS Engine updates. Think there might have been an Auto Update that wanted me to Re-boot, when I got to my pc, in the morning. Did NOT say what the updates were! Don't think I had Any e-mail from Norton/Symantec about Phase 1 & 2.

Maybe they should have done Phase 1 & 2 with BETA Testers, then released the FULLY working update, later.

Ummm... I have to get to work, but my car won't go over 10 miles per hour (and it QUITS after 15 minutes), until it gets the Phase 2 repair in 3 months!!!!

Similar analogy, if I use Anti-virus programs... Ummm.. Our Corporate AV is ON, but will NOT detect ANY Viruses, starting with the letters A - Q, for a month. In order to make our computers safe, we have to Down-grade ALL our pcs. This will take TWO weeks. Are we getting a REFUND, and a CHECK for having to SWITCH to ANOTHER AV Service for the month????

Re: Norton identity Safe toolbar for Firefox 42. isn't working.

Somehow I didn't get to see these announcements, until I saw there was a problem. One of the links, you showed, was a Post from September. All the others were from November, when the mentioned update Came Out.

It would have been Great, if there would have been a Note on the Updates, that would say "Please read THIS Before applying this".

I took a quick look thru my Norton/Symantec e-mail. Did NOT see these announcements. Maybe that is why there are people who seem Surprised about these problems. When I logged into ID Safe (or Internet Security) in the past month or two, there should have been Notices coming up about these changes. When I found I had this problem, and used the On-line Id Safe, there could have been a BIG, Noticeable NOTICE.... THERE..

Ever see Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy?? Earth gets blown up, to make way for a Galactic Expressway.. Hey!! You should have seen the Notice, put up on the Official Basement Bulletin Board in the Galactic Construction Corp Office in Alpha Centauri!!

Hope this will be worth it.
