Norton Identy Safe and Norton Toolbar not working in Windows 10

I am running the latest version of Norton Security (22.5.2.15).  I am also running the released build of Windows 10.  Internet Explorer locks up and will not respond as long as I have the Identity Safe and Norton Toolbar add-ons enabled in IE.  When I disable the add-ons, all is well.  If I re-enable the add-ons, then IE will not load and just responds saying IE is not responding and I have to force IE to close.

Is there a solution for this problem?  I've uninstalled Norton Security and re installed, and the same problem happens.

Re: Norton Identy Safe and Norton Toolbar not working in Windows 10

Hello

As of now Microsoft is not allowing the use of third party add-ons yet. I have read that this might happen by the end of the year. We have to remember that as long as the program is free, Microsoft is still developing Win 10. Identity Safe and the toolbar itself is like made of add-ons. Hopefully, by the end of the year. Toolbars I think have always been trouble some, so maybe Norton can create a new way of handling the functions of the toolbar without the toolbar itself. Thanks.

Success always occurs in private and failure in full view. Windows 10 Pro 64 bit Norton Core Security Plus 22.17.3.50 Core Firmware 282 I E 11 Chrome latest version.

3rd party add-ons do not work in the Edge browser for Windows 10.  The problem is in IE 11 running on Windows 10.  IE 11 does support add ons just as it does on Win7 and Win 8.1  So, the issue is still a valid problem.  I have other computers running Win10 that do not have this problem under the IE 11 browser.

I'm running IE11 on Windows 10 Pro 64-bit and Norton Toolbar works normally.

Could you check your public account download folder for the Norton installer. It should be located here C:\Users\Public If you find it run it and uninstall Norton when it asks to remove all personal settings place a check mark in it. Then let it uninstall Norton. After that re-install Norton using the same installer or access your Norton account and download Norton from there.

What SGFC says is right, but only if it's version 22.5.2.15; you might have an older version there. Otherwise you must download NS from your Norton account.

Hi @VineRider,

Thanks for reporting this issue.

We would like to know more information about this scenario:

1) What other Add-On's do you have in IE 11?

2) What is your IE's HOME PAGE?

3) Did you try disabling other add-on's / extensions and see if IE still locks up?

I've also sent you a Private Message requesting logs, Please check it when you get a chance.

Re: Norton Identy Safe and Norton Toolbar not working in Windows 10

I did a new install of Windows 10 to see if that would correct the problem.  It did not.  Unfortunately, IE11 became so unstable it would not start, even after uninstalling Norton..  So, I reinstalled Windows 10 again and have not reinstalled Norton Security on this machine.  It is a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 with 256 gig of RAM and an i5 processor.  On my Surface Pro 2, and a Dell XPS18, both running Windows 10, I have no issues.  Only on the Surface Pro 3.  I am hesitant to install Norton again as IE becomes unstable and the only way to correct it is to reinstall Windows 10.

Re: Norton Identy Safe and Norton Toolbar not working in Windows 10

hi VineRider

I had a similar problem when upgrading to Windows 10 on one of three devices all with Norton 22.5.2.15 installed all using the Norton Toolbar and ID Safe. The symptoms were not exactly the same but it became difficult to use IE11 without receiving error messages and at times closing down.

I have not long come off an online chat with Microsoft where he had to sort out a couple of settings in Internet Options which the installation of W10 had caused to be changed. One was the connection to the internet where all the options were left blank and the other was under the Advanced Tab where similarly all the settings were blank these were returned by clicking on restore Advanced Settings. All was fine and working however, most of the Toolbars were disabled. I enabled the Norton Toolbar and the problems returned.

At the time I had not noticed one toolbar/extension was enabled which in my case was WinZip Courier BHO which was an extra from WinZip I purchased many years ago. As it was an offer when renewing WinZip and a free version it has not been updated in probably 6 years. I have now disabled this and enabled the Norton Toolbar/IDSafe at the moment IE11 is working normally which would appear to support the suggestion by Mohan_G that it may be an add-on other than Norton that is causing the problem.

I do not have this problem on the other two devices where the settings are the same with the exception of having the WinZip Courier Extension.

Re: Norton Identy Safe and Norton Toolbar not working in Windows 10

It seems I have fixed the problem.  I did a complete clean reinstall of Windows 10, not saving any files or settings.  I also renamed the computer so that it did not prompt me to restore settings that were backed up in the cloud.  Everything seems to be working now.  I suspect something in the cloud settings for my WIndows Live account were causing the problem.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions.

I can't Identity Vault to work at all. When I try to 'open' the vault, the screen prompts to "Get Started" - when I click it it prompts for the various credentials (login, security code, etc.), which I give - then that windows goes away but the 'Get Started' dialogue remains and IV won't open.
