Re: Norton live update

Hi thomasmullhall,

I'm using NS for almost two months and today is the first time that the Virus Definitions were released less frequently.
Unlike when I was using NIS, the virus defs hardly were released more than two times a day.

With NS, I'm getting these updates even up to 3-4 times a day. I also wanted to say that we are receiving the local Virus defs that are supported by those who are stored on the cloud. NS is cloud based.

I hope this helps.

Re: Norton live update

Hello

I'm using NS almost 4 weeks. I get the quick scans most of the time about 2 times a day with my computer on 24/7 and idle timeout set to 1 minute. I also miss not having the pulse updates. The main page used to tell you how long ago the antivirus definitions had come out.

Re: Norton live update

And more over here in the other side, we get yesterdays update today! (due to time zone difference where we are ahead of GMT and US/PST is behind GMT. )
That will make people confused.

The right way is to add the time zone details explicitly to the status displayed on main gui or setup regional servers for synchronised updates. (nah! They havent even made available NS in my country)

Re: Norton live update

Hi CV,

Since a country is not fully supported for NS and NSWB, installing English versions of these countries, you can find to have delays in receiving the Virus defs, unfortunately.

Re: Norton live update

Hello

I discovered tonight if an antivirus definition update fails to install, it will install ok when you try to do a manual live update. The drawback though is the original size of the update is a few kb's, but when it does finally install ok, you end up with a huge download.  There should be a way to just  install the same size antivirus definition so that you know that the original d/l which failed actually did succeed with the next try. I miss the pulse updates when I see the antivirus definition fail.

Re: Norton live update

Hi flo,

I'm using NS from a couple of months.
If you miss the Pulse Update, they will still be retrieved on the next Virus definitions that will installs successfully, I guess.

Re: Norton live update

Hello Sandro

I miss the pulse updates that used to occur every few minutes because NS does not have them in the program any more. So if there is a problem with the installing of the antivirus definitions there are no pulse updates to fall back on. There is a long period of time when you don't get new updates now.

Yes, but NS, if it finds something suspicious, has the incorporated possibility to download/consult, in the background the latest Pulse defs and consult these in order to determine the status of file(s), clean or not, so protection, at least equal, if not better, compared to NIS 14, is there.  (Cloud based defs).

I thought you were still using NIS, I just noticed you're running NS reading your previous post, sorry I had missed this.
Right, NS does not have the Pulse Updates. When you think that the virus defs are not installed correctly, from the NS GUI click on get support, NS has the ability to recognize if  the database of virus defs are missing and/or corrupt and install the missing set, or the entire database, if necessary.
You do not need to wait until the new ones will be available.
IMO, in this aspect, NS works better than NIS, I guess

Re: Norton live update

The date and time of all background tasks (live update, quick scan etc.) is available from the main menu by clicking "Settings" near the top of the screen just to the left of "help."  Then select "Administrator Settings".  At the top of the list of administrator settings is "Background Tasks."  Click on the "configure [+] " link to the far right of "Background Task."
