norton local vault

I used to have norton local vault last 5 years.

Lately I had problem with norton update patch and lost the auto log on function.  I requested help from live chat after hours frustration.  The helper just go ahead uninstalled my norton and download a new norton file on my computer.

Then there is some trouble and the help link closed. So I installed the new norton file to safe guard my computer.

Now the problem, all my norton local idenity vault gone.  I now realised that norton would not allow local vault.  I do have my local vault back up but it is not so update.

I wish the helper should let me know first  so that  (1) I could back up the latest DAT/CSV (2) I would not let him uninstall first before I take all the local vault in hand-writing

I was just told that if now I put my vault back up to my identity safe all would be on cloud.

I do not like my vault details on cloud at all and I would not buy norton any more after 5 years subscriptions because I feel very  let down after all these.

Could anyone help : how could I read my DAT/CSV file? They are all in funny symbols when I open them even the CSV file.

Thanks in advance

You can open a CSV file with Notepad or a spreadsheet program. The DAT file is unreadable. Did you make the two separate exports? One CSV and one DAT.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: norton local vault

Hi, many thanks for your help. I did try to open the CSV file, but all the wordings and paragraphs in silly arrangements, some show with lots of ???? or some marks only - not really proper words so I could not really read it properly.

Re: norton local vault

What program are you using to try to read the CSV file? Using Excel, you have to make decisions on how to interpret the file. Try the different options to see if one helps you read the file.

Re: norton local vault

If you use notepad (or any text reader) to read the CSV Exported file, items will be sorted in the following order:

url, username, password, name, grouping, extra

Re: norton local vault

Hi, many thanks for your kind messages

I could read more with the notepad, still need to guessing a lot as it have lots of words showing like this "http://sn,,,lg,,"

I have no idea why it shows like that so now painfully try all my best to get all the details back.

I have read someone mention LassPass on the fourm when norton toolbar not working with firefox for nearly a year (I should stop buy norton but stay loyalty not very regretted).

Would this good for local vault? I really not want anything with cloud storage. Thanks in advance
