Norton patch does not restore open explorer windows

I have the option enabled in Windows 7 and 8.1 to "restore previous folder windows at logon".  However, whenever there is a patch for Norton Security (or NIS), it shuts down the explorer process and does not restore the folder windows that were open.  This defeats the purpose of having that option enabled in Windows.  Is there a fix or workaround for this?

Re: Norton patch does not restore open explorer windows

Hi,
As the option "restore previous folder windows at logon", works only if you have logged off from the computer, and not if the explorer.exe environment was restarted during the patches. I would suggest you to use the option on Norton Settings>Antispyware and Updates to "Restarting your computer to apply any patches." I do not remember the exact option, but it can be found somewhere there.

Thanks for your response.  I think I found where you mean - under Updates > Apply updates only on reboot > On.  Is that what you meant?

I guess that makes sense that it's only stopping and restarting the process vs. a reboot, but you'd think they could still save the windows folder states before they do that if you have that option enabled. Especially since there's no warning that it's going to kill the explorer process...

Yes, that is correct. I was not knowing the exact product which you have on your computer.
That option of saving the Windows Folder state should not work, as it would mean that Norton will have to keep track of all open processes. Wherein Windows can store it during reboot in a temporary file.

Edit: If you think the issue is resolved, you can mark my previous comment as solution. Thanks and Welcome :)

Re: Norton patch does not restore open explorer windows

Thanks again.  I guess I still think that Norton shouldn't cause any sort of loss to any Windows functionality, and the patching process breaks saving the folder state.  I would think Norton should check for that, write a temp file to retain that state and restore it when the process restarts.  Though at the same time, Windows exhibits the same behavior when the explorer process crashes and I think they should retain that information and restore it as well...
