Re: Norton Peek

This Norton Peek problem first appeared in v22.10.0.83 (released 03-Jul-2017).  It was tested in the beta version of v22.10.0.x but was never supposed included in the "stable" v22.10.0.83 release.  A bug fix to completely disable Norton Peek functionality was first released in v22.10.0.85 on 17-Jul-2017 - see Symantec employee Tony Weiss' post <here> in this thread.

I have no idea why Norton Peek reappeared on some systems when v22.10.1.10 was released on 28-Aug-2017 but the software developers appear to have made the same mistake again.

See this thread:

https://community.norton.com/en/forums/norton-peek-feature-enabled-2210?page=1#comments

It shows again on my system but CTRL-ALT-P turns it ON and OFF.

There is no setting to control it as that is suppose to be added when the feature is released.

Thanks, Jim.
I guess we have no choice but to wait for Norton to fix it. :/

Hi @ffallon1,

Sorry for the inconvenience caused. Could you please let us know the Operating System and Norton Product version installed?

Re: Norton Peek

I have the same issue - the product is broken - no setting can disable it, the instructions are all wrong and it doesn't even work correctly. Release a fix immediately.

Windows 10 Pro v1703
Norton-internet-security/22.10.1.10

All latest versions and patches.

Raised a Norton Support request yesterday, guy had no idea what Norton Peek was and asked me to UNINSTALL the product and reinstall.

Re: Norton Peek

We are experiencing this major bug with Norton Peek, which just pops up constantly and we can even finish typing a sentence on the PC. The instructions to turn it off don't work and neither does the keyboard shortcut. We are seriously considering uninstalling Norton Security and going back to Costco to seek a refund. Please fix this issue.

Re: Norton Peek

I get the same by just pressing the "p" button. So while typing an email, every time I press the "p" button it turn the peek popup on and off?? All efforts and instructions to disable peek failed

This really needs to get fixed quickly.  It is having productivity impact on my work...

Re: Norton Peek

I worked with useless support (India, script robot). "Uninstall and reinstall and the peek will be removed". Not. The online docs don't match the admin menus at all. Total fail. This is getting way past annoying, and it doesn't look like Symantec/Norton cares. I can't imagine anyone wanting to use this thing, it's so intrusive.

Windows 10 Home here, and Norton Peek is making me want to uninstall the suite. Its annoying and turns itself back on after turning it off with ctrl alt P

I too tried support (chat)  and was told to run power eraser. I asked the person if he knew what Norton Peek was. He said he did not know and again said to use power eraser. I terminated the chat at that time.

Re: Norton Peek

Very poor to release a piece of functionality accessed via a magic key code, but with no way to reconfigure that code.

I have some other software where I have configured this code to access some functionality in it.

I now have to reconfigure that product to work around a Symantec bug.

You need to do better than this guys :(

Turn off (uncheck) safe surfing (antiphishing) under settings. That should disable peek.

Oh man, I could kiss you. So far, so good - not a peep from Peek.

Re: Norton Peek

I hesitate to turn off anti-phishing...isn't that asking for trouble?

Re: Norton Peek

OK, I have the Peek bug too.  And it is really pissing me off.  Norton needs to pull their heads out of their backsides and fix this ASAP!  There has to be a safe what to completely disable this function...

Re: Norton Peek

Of all the possible security threats i'd say it's the least threatening. Run Malwarebytes with Norton and you don't really have to worry with it. I think you'll be okay honestly. It's off on mine so i'm not giving you advice I wouldn't use myself.

Re: Norton Peek

I may have found a work around. Saw in previous post just pressing P activates peek which causes it pop up constantly. Had the same issue. If you go to administrative settings and turn off "Search Shortcut Key" it no longer pops up when pressing P or Ctrl+Alt+P.

So the bug here is it's not recognizing the correct shortcut key to launch peek. Disable shortcuts to disable launching from keyboard.

Re: Norton Peek

Norton Peek made my computer unusable because just pressing the letter P would open Norton Peek.  It turns out you can’t really type much without the letter P.  All my searches to remove or disable were dead ends.

I finally found the solution on my own.

Open Norton Security and click on “Settings”.  Next click on “Administrative Settings”.  Next click on “Use Defaults”.  Finally, click the “Apply” button and Peek will then be gone.

If you previously changed any default settings, you will need to change them again.

I have the free version of Malawarebytes but it has problems running with Norton. Is there a setting I need to know?
Thanks.

Re: Norton Peek

Going into administrative settings an switching off  Search shortcut key really works.

Re: Norton Peek

This worked for me. Thanks!

Yesterday Norton had me reboot my PC and the problem temporarily went away, but then it came back.

They have a serious bug that they need to fix ASAP. "Use defaults" worked for me.

Sorry, I guess you can't tell what comment I was replying to.  I was replying to the comment above from Moe Howard III that said:

"Open Norton Security and click on “Settings”.  Next click on “Administrative Settings”.  Next click on “Use Defaults”.  Finally, click the “Apply” button and Peek will then be gone. "

Thanks!

Re: Norton Peek

I don't have any issues with Malwarebytes and Norton coexisting. I wouldn't know what issues you are having without a bit more detail. I do have a lifetime key I bought for 99 cents from G2A.com. I don't think that would matter though.

Maybe you need to allow Malwarebytes through Norton firewall? (In Norton) Settings>Firewall>Program Control>MBAMservice.exe (Allow)

Re: Norton Peek

Thanks to DanLB; this solution worked for me, and seemed preferable to resetting all settings to their defaults so I wouldn't have to re-customize the settings that I have previously changed.

Of course, reading to the bottom of the thread and learning that Symantec has posted a fix would have been a smart move on my part, so thanks to Imacri for posting that solution as well.
