I regulary use Norton power eraser, after a quick virus scan.  This is the log report I get as a result:

Re: Norton Power Eraser

Sorry for sending my problem too soon.  The Norton PE log I sent above causes a corrupt registry every time after using Norton PE.  My question: what is the problem and how do I handle with this repeated error log.  Thanks everyone, have a nice day.

Re: Norton Power Eraser

Are you allowing NPE to correct any errors when you run it? NPE is an aggressive tool to be used only if you feel a regular full system scan is not finding something. As such it can find issues that are not really there, and can actually make your system unbootable if you allow it to remove the wrong file. It is not meant as a regular scanning tool.

This registry error you are getting could be caused by a false positive being detected and corrected by NPE.

Re: Norton Power Eraser

Hi Olliebollie,

Could I request some additional debug logs please? You can find them here: C:\Users\--username–\AppData\Local\NPE\

Just grab this file: NPETraceSession.etl

Thank You,

Jeff

Re: Norton Power Eraser

Hello Jeff,

I did not find any NPE logs, following the way you describe above.  Norton PE is part of Norton internet security.  I am not using the standalone version.  As Peterweb advised me not to use NPE as virus scanner, I will follow his advice.

Wishing you a nice day!

Re: Norton Power Eraser

When you looked for the logs, did you use the admin account name in the "C:\Users\--username–\AppData\Local\NPE\  path? As NPE is run under the admin account, that is where you would find the logs.

Even though you have chosen to not use NPE for regular scans, symc_Holt would still like to diagnose the issue you are seeing when you did run it.
