Norton results in spoiling the pleasure of a new laptop and loss of wireless connection HELP

New to the forums so excuse any wrong doings.

Got a new laptop Lenovo  windows 8 with Norton per loaded with a special  price to buy for a year.Trouble is that the default settings on Norton ,firewall prevent access to my wireless router. It has been bad enough coming to grips with Windows 8 but I cannot even get on line to then alter the settings. The last login attempt said I was locked out for an hour, after I bought the years protection then losing my wireless ........

So rather than typing on me laptop am on me I pad..........

I wonder whether the settings are made so that you have to seek help or am I being cyclical in my young age.

I guess this has come up before on the forums but not with the angle of it is deliberate for commercial reasons that there is no easy guide given on the laptop so you can alter.

Could someone point me in the right direction please to solve this.

O and by the way whilst my old laptop was getting near needing replacement anyway having got caught by a virus finally made me purchase a new one now.Now that's another story but avoid speedy XX pro .......the way the system operates is very very clever but worse than those who con elderly retired people out of their money for bogus repairs to their house

Hi Cockneyrebel,

Are you getting a Norton full page block stating that the IP address of your router is a malicious site?

Hi Send

I dont get a full page block as you mention.

I have disabled the firewall for 15 mins and I can stay connected to my wi fi.

It appears to be maybe the default settings that would allow me to connect then when wanting to use a programme via wireless it would block me out.

There apprears to be rules etc to be set. There dont seem an easy guide on the website anywhere.

At least I am a little bit savvy or else the new laptop would be going back in the post.

Any forum guys that can help rally would b gratful.

We have a small home network with an omega storcenterxi2 but have turned that off now.

thks

cocke

The Smart Firewall should not be preventing access to your wireless network, unless something is out of whack.  Make sure that the Firewall is set to Automatic Program Control.  Then use the firewall Reset option, found in Settings > Network > Smart Firewall > Advanced Settings.  This will restore the firewall configuration to its defaults and allow new rules to be created for your programs as they request network access.  Although the firewall may be involved, it is possible that the Norton Network Security Map, which uses the firewall to control the types of network traffic allowed into your PC may also be playing a part in causing the issue.  The Network Security Map will cause some protocols to be blocked when a wireless network is not secured with encryption, for example.  This wouldn't prevent access to the network, but it might limit some functionality by blocking some types of communication with other devices on the network.

Hi

After looking at the advice on line decided to disble the fire wall and see what I could you.On the support Norton offer live chat and on line support Free.

Spent an hour on line via logmein remotely.Apparently it was an issue with a Norton tool.I suspect a conflict somewhere with the lenovo freebies offering remote security software in case you lose your laptop etc.

Anyway appear to be cooking on gas now

Thanks to Jerald at Norton
