Norton in safe mode detected TDSS Killer as a Heuristic Virus. What should I do? Is this a false detection?

Hi. I was scanning my computer for viruses, and in the end, when I scanned in safe mode with Norton, it detected TDSS Killer as a Heuristic Virus. TDSS Killer is a rootkit tool made by Kaspersky I use to scan for rootkits and bootkits, but now its been detected as a threat in Safe Mode...?! What should I do? Should I worry? Has anyone else had this happen to them? Its possibly one of the best rootkit scanners out there, and now its been detected as a virus! Is this a false detection? Has anyone else used TDSS Killer as a rootkit scanner? If not, does using a rescue disk like Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10 good for scanning rootkits and bootkits? I need some advice please and thank you. When I scan TDSS Killer in normal mode, weirdly enough, the norton insight says thousands of users in the Norton Community have used it and that it has been out since 19 days and it even has a good rating, but in safe mode it says that it is unknown how many people use it and it is unknown how long its been out for. That's confusing and frustrating.

Are you running in Safe Mode with Networking? Try the scan again with Networking.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

I would suggest it is normal for somewhat advanced security products to be detected by Norton, or some other anti-virus scanners.  You can exclude the program, or if you don't use it, just leave it in quarantine.

Do you have any reason to suspect your machine is infected?  TDSS Killer isn't a tool that is needed to be run as an on-demand scanner.  A much safer option would be the free versions of MBAM or Zemana AntiMalware.  I would also suggest only running TDSS Killer under the supervision of a trained malware removalist.

Cheers.

A little bit of knowledge is... well a little bit of knowledge.

Hello

If you do use it, then delete it after you use it. It is always getting updated. So it's best to download it fresh if it is needed. It's an advanced tool as Krusty has mentioned.

Thanks.

Success always occurs in private and failure in full view. Windows 7 Pro 64 bit NSBU 22.17.0.183 Core Firmware 282 I E 11 Chrome latest version.

Thanks a lot guys for the posts. I'll just treat TDSSKiller as a false detection and delete it after I use it. I didn't know TDSSKiller was an advanced scanner that could be dangerous to use without supervision, so I'll keep that in mind.
