Norton Security and W10 Anniversary!

I just updated on x64 PC and MS stated my version of NS was not compatible with the new W10 and it started Defender.  However, then it says do you want to use Defender or update Norton?  I chose Norton, then immediately opened Norton>check for new version and Norton claims I have the latest.  So I'm slightly confused but not worried!

Re: Norton Security and W10 Anniversary!

@ratchet27, just to clarify, when you open Help within your Norton product, what version are you running? Currently, the latest version is 22.7.0.76. I recommend that you run LiveUpdate manually if you are running anything below that version. Thanks.

Re: Norton Security and W10 Anniversary!

Thank you for the reply!  Indeed, that is my current version.  A Microsoft glitch I presume!

@ratchet27 - yeah, that's confusing. Do you continue to get that message popping up? If so, can you grab a screenshot of it and post it here? This sounds different from what we were expecting. Thanks for your help.

Re: Norton Security and W10 Anniversary!

I had the same problem on one computer - I just chose from the Microsoft prompt to update a Norton module and then I had no more problems.  On another computer after the Windows 10 update Norton became inactive and I needed to reinstall Norton (with many live updates reboots).   I use Comcast Norton Security Suite.

Hi @PaulGo,

Thank you for your post. Is Norton active on the other system? Could you confirm the Norton product's version number? If Norton is still inactive, could you please send us logs? Thank you.

Re: Norton Security and W10 Anniversary!

Norton is now active on both systems, before the update I made sure both Windows 10 (64 bit) computers were running the latest version of the Comcast Norton Security Suite  22.7.0.76.Attached are the log files from the computer which I had to reload Norton.

Re: Norton Security and W10 Anniversary!

You know how Windows tells you that you'll keep your settings?

You will lose some settings. For me Fast Start was turned back on, Windows Defender couldn't be turned off in Services anymore and there were a few other settings that were on that should've been off.

No problems installing the update otherwise.

If you want to get the Windows 10 Anniversary Update now go here https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12387/windows-10-update-history?ocid=update_setting_client since it's being rolled out in phases.

Re: Norton Security and W10 Anniversary!

I didn't get any word that Norton was incompatible but I did get a pop up from defender saying would I like to use it to scan for malware & viruses on occasions, that the app is turned off but will do this once in a while.

All is good folks!  It just gave that prompt directly after installation, however, it never rendered again and Norton is working fine.  Thank you!

Re: Norton Security and W10 Anniversary!

Another thing I found enabled was disk defragmenter after the update. Which I had disabled because I use an SSD.

Re: Norton Security and W10 Anniversary!

Windows 10 does not defrag a SSD. Instead it does a Trim command. I have mine set for Monthly.

Re: Norton Security and W10 Anniversary!

@ratchet27, that's great to hear that it's working fine for you now. Our concern is that the alert shouldn't have happened - if you were running Norton 22.7, then installed the Windows 10 anniversary update, the popup should not appear. Would you mind helping me with a few things, just to clarify the situation?

1) When did you update to Norton 22.7.0.76? Was it prior to the Windows 10 Anniversary update? During the update? After the update?
2) Could you provide a step-by-step timeline of what happened and when? If you're able to guess how long it took and which steps were taken, that can help us determine why the message appeared.
3) I've sent you a private message with a request for Microsoft logs. If you're able to locate and send those logs, it would help immensely.

I appreciate your help with this issue. It's important to us that customers aren't confused by error messages they see, and we want to be sure we resolve them quickly. Thanks.

ReFS DisableDeleteNotify is not currently set |
TRIM support for SSDs with ReFS is not currently set, but will automatically be enabled if a SSD with ReFS is connected.

Re: Norton Security and W10 Anniversary!

NTFS is the current default file system for Windows 10.

ReFS is a new file system which came out in 2012 but is not normally used for  consumer PC's.

So what you are showing is correct.

Can you please tell me if you enabled Limited Protection Scanning from Microsoft from settings before you saw the pop up?
