Norton Security with backup does bot let you back out and delete all backup sets

I'm setting up a PC for a specific purpose.  I tried the backup feature in Norton Security only to find that there was not enough room for what I need to back up.  So I'm going to do it myself but now I want to get rid of that last backup.and I'm stopped cold.  A Norton tech support specialist tried to get rid of the frequent annoying messages that there isn't enough space and I should add more.  His solution didn't work, I'm still getting the message this morning.  And there is still the issue that the backed up data belongs to me and if I want to delete it I should be able to do so.  But software is evidently smarter than I am and says no.

Does anyone know how I can get rid of that last default backup set?

Once you have set up a backup set, it seems you need to at least keep one backup set. It can be set to only back up one small text file, and then you can turn off the backup feature in Norton Security Settings.

If you are referring to removing the backed up files, you can use the information in this Norton support article.

Unless this has changed recently only the paid (separate) backup program will allow you to delete a backup from the cloud which is ridiculous. I gave up on the backup feature due to this.

Are you referring to the fact that if you are using the backup feature of Norton Security, you need to maintain at least one backup set? That is noted in the link I gave above.

You cannot delete a backup set if only one backup set is available.

Although, you can also manually remove all files from the cloud using Windows Explorer and looking for the Norton Backup Drive in My computer/This PC. Then you could just disable the backup feature.

It would make good sense if there was obvious notice somewhere that only the paid version can delete a backup from the cloud.  Honestly this smacks of something close to extortion -- we'll keep your data until you pay to get it back.

Is there no way to delete that last backup set?  If I must then I'll try going after the files using Windows Explorer and see what happens.  If it works I'll mark this as solved.

To my knowledge, there is no free/unpaid version of backup with Norton. Twilight Princess may be referring to the standalone Norton Online Backup, as opposed to the backup feature included in the Norton Security product.

I know you can remove all files from the online storage used for the Norton Security Backup feature using the Windows Explorer. I have done this in the past when I needed to start over again and clear available storage space. Just note that it may appear that Explorer has frozen, but it is just that it takes some time to update the information from the cloud.

I'm closing this because the complaint has become moot. The system was crashed and I had to recover including reinstalling Norton Security from scratch, using up a third of my ten licenses. After that I no longer show any backup sets. I'm not sure why that is but I'll content myself with the fact that no personal or other critical data had been on the machine. Smilin Jack

Reinstalling the same Norton product on the same physical device should not use up another activation. You can see that on the My Subscriptions page of your Norton Account. On the main Norton Account page, click on the user icon at the top right and click on My Subscriptions. Then click Manage Licenses by your current subscription. You may have a duplicate device showing on the Devices page, but you can just determine which is the old device and remove that.

Yes, read it.  But unless I've forgotten how to read English I'm told I have no current backup set.  Now while we might quibble over how that happens when I had to reinstall, it appears to be a fact as far as Norton Security is concerned.  Consequently I see nothing gained by going on with this issue.
